As good as Charman is, he can be replaced by McDonald or Wood (I hope the latter so he and Meesen go head to head) but I think they'll really miss Jason Roe.

Roe's their defensive rebounder and also takes their kick-ins, of which there should be plenty when you play the Crows :(. Rebounding and kick ins are both a vital part of the modern game and whoever takes his place might just be a little off so these should be good areas for the Crows to target.

They'll miss Charman just as much IMO.

He rucks well but more importantly, he tends to give his opponent a headache by pushing forward quite a bit.

I can't see his replacement causing us this type of angst.

I believe they have been using Leuenberger and he is burning as back up so I believe they will use him with McDonald. So in saying that I think Roe will be missed more as his rebound is like a young Macca.

Good point. Leuenberger will get more time on the ball as 1st ruck and he looks like the type that can cut you up. Hopefully Hudson can outbody him and at least neutralise his second efforts.

Roe hasn't been mentioned much here but he, along with Pearce, is one who got away from us. He was under our noses at North and doing just what he does today with Brisbane. They obviously saw it and we didn't.

With Roe early on it was more of a commitment issue. The talent had always been there.

I think we'll miss both a great deal - Charman is our best ruck and one of the most important players in the side. He can dominate ruck contests, float forward, but equally he does a lot of work around the ground, taking important marks and applying a lot of pressure too which is impressive for a big guy. Whoever comes in (and I hope it's Wood, for his development and to show faith in him when Leuenberger has recently overtaken him) will not be able to provide the complete package that Charman brings, but ruck wise we should still go ok. If both Leuenberger and Wood can put their game together, they're likely to get 30+ touches between them for the match and really cause some damage around the ground.

Roe is probably our 3rd tall defender, and this year you can see he's been working on the attacking side of his game (you get the impression Justin Leppitsch is passing on his knowledge here), and takes kick ins when Drummond hasn't been available. I think the impact of losing Roe will depend a lot on whether Drummond comes back. Josh can play as a tallish defender, is our kick in specialist and can provide a lot of drive from the back half. Between rounds 10-15 he was getting 25-30 touches every game and gave us great rebound.

Add Joel Patful to that list.
