Batman 3 has been officially titled The Dark Knight Rises

And Nolan has said that the villain WON'T be The Riddler.

That's annoying. The Riddler is one of the best Batman villains because he brings out his skills as a detective (which is the big strength of the character).

Not sure who I'd like them to use. The Penguin taking over the mob could be good, but maybe somebody they haven't used in the films before (like Hush).

I've always thought Calendar Man would make a good secondary villain.

The Riddler would be too easy to do. Everyone's already made that movie in their head.

I'd be happy if it was both Poison Ivy and Catwoman as the villain.

Just because The Riddler wont be 'appearing' in the film doesn't mean he wont play a part. :p

He still might a get a mention as an "invisible" mastermind whilst other secondary villians get the screen time.

Similar, again I dont think The Pengiun will be a main villian either. He might get some small screen time connected to the mob in some way.

Nolan is big on focusing on the gangsters/mob as the true villians within Gotham City. In BB they facilitated Scarecrow and RAG, in TDK they turned to The Joker... so expect them to play similar here.

At the end of TDK Batman was a wanted man by police and hated by the public... being the last Nolan take on Batman and with the new title TDKR... I am expecting this one to see events in GC to reach public catastrophic proportions and Batman will come to redeem himself (in the eyes of the public).

My guess is perhaps Bane will be used in some capacity. Movie will start with a bit of Bane's background, he comes to GC and lets loose AA prisoners before confronting Batman and "breaking" him. Whilst Batman is down and out Bane takes over the mob (cameos for The Pengiun) whilst other AA villians are now loose... amongst them The Joker (never seen but leaves it open for future stories) and say The Riddler (again never seen but pulling the strings).

The Riddler through Bane and the mob perhaps they somehow inform the public of Harvey Dent's turn into Two-Face, Batman's sacrifice in TDK and his subsequent "breaking" as Bane's hands to fully demoralise the public. They now set about the finale catastrophy for GC (perhaps as punishment for originally turning to Batman).

The public fully demoralised and with no hope of a saviour at now at their lowest. In the meantime Batman (via Lucious and friends) as slowly recovered and positioning himself to return. He returns of course to very publically save GC, confront Bane again this time proving superior, and confronting the mob (where Bane's eyes are opened to the mob's use of 'venom').

Movie ends with Batman publicly declaring he will always "be there" for the citizens of Gotham City in whatever capacity they need... ahhh GC <3's Batman... feel the love baby!!!

Nolan signs off on the Trilogy... leaving The Joker, The Riddler and The Penguin all at large should any director wish to attempt to continue the series.

Nolan's said he's wrapping up the saga, isn't he?

Wouldn't surprise me if it sees batman either dying or retiring with Gotham restored.

Yeah, he said there's going to be a definite end to the story, rather than leaving things open. He's also said there's going to be no Robin, no Mr Freeze, no Riddler, no Two Face, and probably no Penguin either.

One other positive (IMO) is they have no interest in doing it in 3D. :thumbsu: There's a possibility that it will be a full IMAX feature.

Could they put Harley Quinn in this movie? Probably not as a central villain but perhaps in a lead up to releasing whoever the main villain will be for the film. Jokers been arrested and residing in AA (never has to have screen time) and Harley in her quest to release him, lets out many others onto Gotham. If this is supposed to end the story, if it's to be by Batman dying, this could be the way it's done. Far too many villains for him to contain?

Either way, I'm stoked for this.

I'd love to see more Scarecrow or Riddler. Phosphorus Rex for some luls.

Can't see him dying, given the title. Plus Nolan does confusing endings, but has he been known to do a depressing ending like that?

At the end of The Dark Knight Returns, Batman fakes his death. That could happen.

I'd put money on Alfred dying.

A guy on another site had a cool idea to do with the penguin.
"What I really want to see from this movie is Batman versus City Hall. Gotham City just got ****ed big time by the Joker, and that leaves an opening for an authoritarian mayor, Penguin, to establish an oppressive police state in order to regain control of the city. Penguin will stop at nothing to maintain order and will commit tremendous abuses of power in his pursuit of Batman. Batman will have to fight against Gotham in order to save the city from itself.

Throw in the mafia--headed by a new charismatic boss (Black Mask?)--gaming the police state to further its own agenda, and you've got a full movie"
I think Nolan could make that a great movie. But I think Nolan can make most movies great.

When the worst film you've ever made is The Prestige, you know you're a pretty damn good director.

That's what made me think there'll be a grim ending.

I even remember him getting the shit kicked out of him by Superman as an old man, I believe.

If it's not a batman death, but wraps up the story. Could it not go the other way, somehow Batman manages to defeat the worst that Gotham has to throw at him. And retires from his post until (undoubtedly) someone else decides to continue it on.

I'm not going to speculate on who the villains will be but I reckon this will be best for the movie if Nolan and co keep it as hush as they can. Already the interwebz are going nuts with talk about who will be in it and the more they can keep the hype going by not revealing anything, the better.

This is a franchise that sells itself and with a fine director at the helm the chances of it being a great film is high. Therefore, the less we know about the film the greater appreciation we will have for it when we see it.

It's no good hearing that Catwoman for instance is in it and you come up with a concept that seems really good and the movie is just completely different to what you wanted and you go away disappointed. I reckon don't tell us and let us be surprised and amazed.

It won't happen but I would love it to be that way.

If they ended it with bolded part, it would give a ginormous chance for someone else to adapt Frank Millers 'The Dark Knight Returns'.

Which I hope doesn't happen. Because DKR is an outstanding graphic novel and an adaptation would no doubt be a giant **** up.

I don't think DKR would adapt well to the screen. Atomic bombs, nuclear winter, an old Batman fighting Superman... you just know it would turn into a big 'ole SFX mess.

One of those things that is better off left between the pages of a comic book.

I whole-heartedly agree Caesar. The Batman v Superman aspect of the comic is very, very well done. Can't help but think it'd turn into a cheesy hunk of shit on screen.
It would also miss some of the more nuanced parts of the comic, like the satire of polticians and media, and some of the references and allusions to the old ages of comic books.

It worries me that Zack Snyder has expressed interest in it though...

This is going to be great, I don't watch too many movies, but the first two batman movies are two of the few I'm happy to watch again and again.

So happy that there will be no 3D either. Until they can actually make it beneficial to a movie experience, it will continue to suck.

I always find snobs who are so completely ignorant of an entire genre rather amusing. :)
