Players appearing today may have been exploration around fault, no significant fault etc ? WADA certainly has a history re:backdating so no surprise if guilty players are available round 1
Not sure about round 1. Surely would have to include some kind of token games penalty for the season proper. 4-6 games or something like that.

If you are thinking that WADA is going to take into consideration the "conditional voluntary suspensions" that the Essendon* players did over the off-season last year then you are, along with the Essendon* players, sadly mistaken. If they had been found guilty and appealed it to CAS then the voluntary suspensions would still stand. However, this is a de neuvo case and therefore any pisstake bans that the players imposed on themselves will not be considered.

I know there is a line of PR spin that pushes the "heavily backdated, no suspensions served" outcome but you have to ask, why would WADA go to this much trouble for zero effective penalties? Makes no sense

Don't they only appeal about 10% of all anti-doping cases and have an almighty strike rate?

If they get found guilty with no further punishment, they'll still be called drug cheats for a very long time... and there isnt much they can do about it.

I understand * would be tarnished forever as drug cheats

But it doesn't stack up as a worthwhile outcome for WADA to pursue this appeal. That doesn't seem like a good result for all their effort. Surely they'd be pursuing this to find them guilty AND to deliver bans

There can be only 1
Via a reliable 3rd party.
Port Adelaide CEO has said off the record that they are expecting CAS to hand down a guilty verdict with minimal player sanctions. This is to ensure the integrity of the whole anti-doping framework, and, takes into consideration what players have endured over the whole process.
As for Essendon officials, they may not be as fortunate.
I am ok with the officials taking the major hit. Would expect the players to receive some sort of sanctions.
No player should retain any awards from that period and retired players should have their games played reduced. (F/S implications, records etc)

Essendon Football Club is taking a new hands-on approach to showing its long-suffering members some love.

The Bombers are sending a fleet of staff across Australia to hand deliver 'thank you' letters from captain and Brownlow medallist Jobe Watson.

It is understood about 50,000 letters will be hand delivered in the coming weeks.
Thanks for all your support and membership dollars we put to good use on legal fees.

Love Jobe

P.S. Please don't be too upset when we're found guilty of having used performance enhancing drugs.

Players get off without further sanctions??? Then * surely MUST be punished further !!! Would have to be a PR disaster for the AFL if players are found guilty and no one is held accountable and punished accordingly !!!

Holy crap... some interesting points the lawyers are demanding...
  • The records of any and all injections, medical interventions, supplements or treatments, administered to Hunter by the club or its employees and agents.
  • Records of all blood tests requested by Dank.
  • Copies of any consent forms associated with any of these supplements, injections, or other treatments and medical interventions.
  • The PowerPoint presentation between February and March 2012 to the playing group supporting the supplements program and vouched for by then senior coach James Hird and senior players and attended by Dank and other staff, and where players were assured the program was ASADA (Australian Sports Anti-doping Authority) and WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) compliant.
  • Consent forms for those supplements that were signed by the players during the presentation.
  • Details of substances administered between February 2012 and April 2012 by Dank and via an IV drip at an off-site clinic known as Skinovate.
  • Details of injections given to Hunter at the HyperMed Clinic.

just proving how incompetent essendon were (hunters lawyer/s are obviously going for the kill)...its almost as if this will open the can of worms. the afl is being confronted by the law of the land - will be interesting to see whether they squirm their way out of this one...
this hunter case could go on beyond the cas decision coming through...will be interesting if this case garners more insight than the asada and wada cases combined...unlikely but just a thought..

Rumours are that the players have already sought independent legal advice and have for quite some time now because they are starting to see this façade for what it actually is. If found guilty, watch them turn against the club, and the delusional supporters who have cried about the stress of the poor little darlings turn on them.

yeah. unless Essendon can produce documents that can clear themselves... they are damned if they hand over the documents and damned if they dont
