No. Haven't done it. Want to get to her to a rehearsal or something. Even just band practice to watch.
She is tiring of practicing / playing on her own.

I don't want her to lose the inspiration.

I've got to work something out.
There is a band in Melbourne called Electric Mary. Jack Jones (now goes under his birth name of Irwin Thomas) used to play guitar with them. They are phenomenal. Take her to see them next time they play the front bar of the Espy. It'll change her life. they are all "muso's muso's" not sure of the current lineup, but the lead singer Rusty is amazing. 2 lead guitars, ah * it - just watch this.

I've seen jack jones. I'll look it up

Just think about those Gibsons and chill out.
(Call me cheap but I don't mind some Epiphones. If they were ok for John Lennon....)

1960s epiphones are very different to todays epiphones... they were a top of the line guitar manufacturer in the 60s, when they were making the casino, but are now a mainly entry-lower mid level instrument manufacturer.

This. If you can find a 60's epiphone, buy it and giggle like a motherfucckkeer. And yes some of the new ones today sound ok given the right pedals and amps- And let's be honest- 85% of tone is in your fingers- but there's no way you can compare an epiphone 335 to a Gibson. Or a Les Paul... It's like comparing a sandman to an escort panelvan.

Lennon actually said he partly liked Epiphone because they were just as good as Gibson, but cheaper.
That doesn't actually sound 'top of the line' to me in theory, hence their reputation.

I have played an acoustic Fender recently that felt and played better than a Martin worth 6x as much.
I wonder if some guy like you will try come along and say the same thing about those guitars in 50 years time too :)

Felt and played much better than a martin.... Hmmmm so the martin needed a setup. How did it sound? Like firewood I'm betting. And the last paragraph is just dumb and ignorant. Go and get your hands on a vintage epiphone. They were a sensational quality
Guitar. Nothing like today's version. But then again - it probably will play and feel s**t compared to a squire strat in your opinion ...

Yup, that same old argument. A Steinway or a Yamaha or a Kawai.
Is it the hammer action or the fingers playing it. Question answers itself really.

But why can't you find a 60s Epiphone though?
All the other quality brands from the 60s pianos, guitars, anything are all readily available.
Sort of discredits that old point of view in a way.

I was playing the Martin, and the guy in the shop (professional muso/teacher) recommended me the Fender.
That makes two of us dumb and ignorant then.

Of course your just some chilled out muso though going by your post hehe....
Need a pill?

it doesnt really have to do with price... epiphone are now a 'knock-off' type manufacturer (epiphone dots, epiphone les pauls, etc), although a decent one. back in the 60s, they were a major manufacturer that were doing their own thing. gibson were probably still more expensive, though. not that that means anything, other than they were a bigger name.

where epiphone sits in the 'pecking order' is different now than the 60s... that was my only point. i wasnt trying to put anyone or anything down.

as for the fender thing... good for you? a session musician my dad knows plays a strat copy exclusively. he has modded it, but he prefers it to the real thing. thats just personal preference, and more expensive doesnt always equal preferred.

my dad has numerous crazy expensive acoustics, including a stephen stills signature martin, a 1965 gibson J200, and a 1927 martin something... but his best guitar, in my opinion, is a $3,000 maton.

Exactly mate.

You set any decent guitar up properly to the action and the way you like it to sound and the price is secondary.
Yup, you can talk about the wood all day, but some guys make it sing and some guys don't. End of story.

I did say 'some' Epiphones are ok too by the way, nowhere near all.

i have done a little playing with others on a bass, and the bass i use is a $450 epiphone viola (paul mccartney style bass...). i made a slight alteration to it, but i prefer playing that to a rickenbacker 4001 that a friend of mine from an old group played. i had to use a fender precision for one show, and absolutely hated it compared to my viola.

part of that has to do with the short scale neck of the viola, and my natural 'guitarists style' on the bass suiting a shorter neck much more... but i still think it sounds and plays great.

there is nothing wrong with epiphone! again, my only point was that they werent then the same manufacturer that they are now.

Truth be known I have never owned a Fender...but that particular one had a real sweet spot.
I honestly reckon the guys in the shop had that particular one set up a certain way at the time.

A favourite acoustic of mine was a Takamine, and yet I have tried other types of their acoustics and thought they were shite.
So I totally agree, you can't just shop by brands or even one same guitar to the next, they all become unique given enough time.

I am actually thinking of going jazz semi-acoustic next, any suggestions, go for it?

You can find them - was just a turn of phrase. That said, theyre not as readily out there as you'd like them to be.

hahaha a music store guy recommended you a fender over a martin. hahaha im not even gonna get into this with you. but i am genuinely laughing out loutd.

I can't believe there is bickering in the fecking guitar thread - of all places!
Seriously, guys....
It's natural surely.
People have emotional ties to sound.

My daughter plays a 3/4 martin (LMXE). It craps on anything I've heard at her music concerts.
I almost bought her a fender when she started. I'd never really heard them.

Kids at the concerts have them. Squires or something. They sound tinny to me.
But then again, I have no idea where they fit in the order of fenders.

Regarding 3/4 guitars...
I recently ordered one of the new Epiphone express Les Paul for my kids (7 & 9) to start with, but the delivery date was sliding and then yesterday it slid right out to July 2015! I cancelled the order and went for one of the Gear4Music in-house LA strat copies.
I was tempted to buy a Squier, but they were the most expensive and I have seen good reviews of the G4M guitar.
It arrives on the 17th so I can let you know how it plays.

I also just bought my youngest a 5-piece drumkit - which will be fun!

When I was talking martin, that was acoustic.
My daughters electric is full length.
The only reason I bought her the 3/4 was because of the narrow neck. Which all electrics have anyway.

Look forward to hearing how it sounds.

Yeah, I realize that.
My main acoustic is a Martin DM and I have put more hours into that guitar than any other. I truly love that thing :)

How old is your daughter - or how tall is probably a better question...?

Spot on 1.5m. marked on lounge room wall a month ago :)
She's 11
