The Pastor Maldonado boneheaded driver of the week

Watching the incident, Ward is not completely without blame; you'd have to be a special kind of fool to get out of a high-powered vehicle, walk to the middle of a dirt track and point at another driver who's still competing in the race. Ridiculously stupid move.

That said, it's an absolutely horrible situation for all parties involved and I hope Kevin rests in peace. It's hard to tell in that video how much of the blame is Tony's but if he did indeed speed up in an attempt to scare the kid he should cop whatever's coming to him.

Not that it matters but FWIW not really in favour of a thread name change; thread is intended to be good-natured and a bit of a laugh, not really in good taste to rename it after a guy who's just (whether it's his fault or not) killed a 17 year old.

Fair enough about not changing the thread name, was in shock. Beginning to think this incident should be moved to its own thread, pretty huge.

I have no idea when it comes to Sprintcar but I have read quite a few people saying that he was actually doing the right thing by speeding up. You use the throttle to steer so the only way he could make an attempt to miss him was by speeding up and changing direction but perhaps someone with a bit more knowledge on Sprintcars can explain it in more depth.

It seems Stewart will race in the Sprint Cup at Watkins Glen tomorrow.
Maybe things will change in the next few hours and they might get a fill in.
Surely not.....
Regardless of whatever ones view of the incident is , not a good look to go racing less than 24 hours later.

MODS - Maybe move this over to the " General news " thread ?

They were under a yellow caution at the time weren't they? Not racing, or at least not able to pass.

It would be ironic for Stewart to claim he shouldn't be on the track given Stewart is known for stepping in front of cars to hurl his helmet and abuse them.

What a disgrace.
Sure the deceased is not without blame for stepping back onto the track, but wouldn't be the first time that has happened.
At the very least this is manslaughter.

What a shocking situation. Much prefer that this thread is about something silly but pretty harmless, this is catastrophic. RIP to Ward and thoughts with his family, friends and Steward and his family and friends.

Let's see if anyone can beat Moto 3 rider Alex Rins this week.
He just crossed the line leading the Moto 3 race and stood up on his bike and waved his arm in celebration.
Just one slight problem Alex......there was still one lap to go :p

Did he still win though?
