The bold statements dont necessarily go hand in hand in a time like this - If he says that he honestly thinks the list is shot (which is what you seem to think) and it will take 5 years to rebuild, then you lose all hope and confidence in the team.

Disagree entirely.

We have had Swann say 25% of the list needs to be changed, McKay has given his two-bobs worth and then you have Malthouse.

None of them are on the same page and they are sending mixed messages to the supporters who they are pleading to about signing up as members. Why would anyone want to open their wallet when it appears that it is a rudderless ship bereft of leadership and a plan forward.

Tell it like it is, that way the fans know what to expect. The players are also on notice as well meaning that those who believe they should be retained will be playing harder and following the coaches orders more succinctly in order to survive the cut.

The problem with dumping Mick...
  • We dumped Ratten after one poor injury-riddled season; we'll have dumped 'legendary' Mick Malthouse after an exceedingly poor start to the season.
  • The list is in need of complete rebuilding
So we now have a reputation as a football club of dumping coaches when the team has performed poorly yet we have a list that needs rebuilding. That, at least to me, is a sign that doesn't bode well for coaches to sign with Carlton.

It's not just a matter of firing MM and signing someone else to do the job. You need to have someone who will commit themselves to Carlton with all of the skeletons visible in the closet.
Off-topic but I can't help it.

The bolded isn't true. If we want to persist with this "gameplan" then we need to rebuild and get players that will be able to play it.

If we want a simple game plan like Geelongs or Essendons, our list is capable, of course it needs work but it is no where near rebuild material. Never thought it has been.

Some players in our squad have played some damn good football when their confidence is up.

Ask the nearly 46,000 members the club has.

The club is bigger than any individual or group of individuals within it. People come and people go, but the club will always remain.

Are you a member? If not, don't lump us all in the same boat as you. As frustrating as it gets, support the club through thick and thin.

So which one is telling the truth?

That's the problem, we need a united front from them right now, not all of them at loggerheads and sending mixed messages into the media. We look like rank amateurs right now the way we are going about this, it's a fools paradise on a grand scale with the fans being the one's who are actually suffering.

I'm sure all Carlton fans can handle the truth about the list, hell, if the various Blues forums across the net are anything to go by, we are all bracing ourselves for the turnover.

I support the club and have for way longer than you have been on this planet champ !!

But I certainly won't support nepotism, shoddy management & the current Keystone Cops antics our people are specialising in.

Even if that united front means lying to keep up hope and confidence?

I believe (rightly or wrongly) that the confidence will come from telling the truth, not blatantly bullshitting !!

If we get told that X, Y & Z are going to happen this season and at season's end, then there is a sense of expectation as well as a confidence that there is a plan in place arrest the slide.

Right now, we are a shambles with no apparent plan in place and executives appearing to be doing a lot of butt-covering.

The last coach to come out and give us a certainty was Ratts, and he got sacked when we didnt achieve it.

I was looking for honesty last night and all I got was deflection, denial and a massive cop-out.

I understand that he had to protect the club and the players but surely being honest about where we are at is going to keep supporters more interested right now.

Yes, that is part of his job but there is so much discontent around at present, you really need the coach to give some level of hope and confidence for the future.

I reckon you were looking for your opinion to be validated by the coaches words. The fact that he didn't validate it could mean he is deflecting or it could mean he disagrees with your assessment.

I don't think our list needs a rebuild, I think it needs an attitude adjustment. I feel there are a couple of destabilising influences in the player group and these things can be cancerous. We are not a potential spoon candidate on merit. There are other issues at play here and we need to get to the bottom of it, behind closed doors.

What you're essentially saying is this then, in my opinion.

1. The list doesn't need to be rebuilt if we get a new coach it just needs some fine tuning
2. If we keep MM as coach then the list needs rebuilding (not enough players on the list are suited to his style of football).

I've never understood the s**t storm about what people say in the media. No amount of talk in the media is going to change our on-field performances. To coin a corny cliche, actions speak louder than words. I'm far more concerned about what's happening behind closed doors to try and turn this around.

What is it your expecting them to say. I don't get your point about mixed messages and lying ???

From what I can see, pretty much Mick, McKay, Sticks and Swann have all come out and said basically the same thing - the list does not have enough A-graders, we will turn players over at the end of the year, lack of leadership and the players confidence is shot.

What else is there to say ?? I think you are buying into this media cliché of the 'old arrogant Carlton'.

Maybe every radio program and article should have a special section at the start saying 'Carlton is arrogant and they are living in the '80s' - just get it off their chest and then we can get into the real debate.-

- Why is this list playing without confidence

- What are we going to do about 'leadership' on the field.

- How are we going to re-shape the list ?

If you're talking about Mathieson's comments in the media... If he's willing to air his dirty laundry to the media imagine what he's doing in private conversations.

I wasn't looking for anything of the sort, I was hoping to hear a little more than "they are low on confidence", hell they could of interviewed me and got the same answer.

It is not just my assessment we are talking about here, Malthouse fronted the board and told them what he thought of the list which was in complete contrast to what he said last night.

I agree we are better than a wooden spoon team but the simple fact is that the players are either not playing for him or are incapable of implementing his orders. Either way, we have a big issue on our hands that certainly needs to be addressed.

We are bereft of key position players, our rucks are virtually non-existent and our midfield platoon is on the wane. Add to that there are too many of them with questionable skills and as you correctly pointed out, a very poor attitude and it all adds up to having the need for a rebuild.

The last coach to come out and give us a certainty was Ratts, and he got sacked when we didnt achieve it.

He was quite unrealistic at the time and it made him look silly. No coach can give a certainty about onfield success, however, what they can give you is an overview of how they intend to get the team to the level of having multiple premiership assaults.

How have they been doing anything other than that?

No, Mathieson can GAGFed. I'm referring to the expectations that the supporters have of our players, coaches and administrators. Everybody wants to here something different but at the end of the day, it's what happens internally that counts.

There might be a genuine belief at the club that this start can be turned around and they are actively working towards that. However if Malthouse makes those claims in the media and it backfires, as it did last week, then he's left with egg on his face and the media have ammunition.

Clearly they are low on confidence. He didn't lie.

It is not just my assessment we are talking about here, Malthouse fronted the board and told them what he thought of the list which was in complete contrast to what he said last night.

Did he? Whose account are we buying into here? Do you really want him to publicly tell us that our players are no good? Is that a good trait in a man manager?

I agree we are better than a wooden spoon team but the simple fact is that the players are either not playing for him or are incapable of implementing his orders. Either way, we have a big issue on our hands that certainly needs to be addressed.

I'm sorry but there are no simple facts here, aside from the fact that we aren't playing well and we are losing games. The rest is supposition.

We are bereft of key position players, our rucks are virtually non-existent and our midfield platoon is on the wane. Add to that there are too many of them with questionable skills and as you correctly pointed out, a very poor attitude and it all adds up to having the need for a rebuild.

And you want Mick to say that ... because that's what you think. Again, why should Mick share the same opinion as you, in order to not be thought a bullshitter?
