So Hannebery was the sacrificial lamb this week in the centre square for Mitchell. Also as ponsdale noted, in the last few weeks Pyke has taken a big majority of the centre square bounces with Tippett reverting to a full forward/second ruck role after playing about 40% in the ruck in the first 3 rounds.

17th in clangers... I'm trying to stay optimistic about this game but that doesn't bode well against Hawthorn. :drunk:

shithouse will be found out on the open spaces oh the g sat night by a superior side that punish any turnovers

Sadly I agree. And they will patiently wait for said turnovers. We will supply them. It is all they have to do :(

Lots of midfield rotations. Buddy got one start in the center, and one bounce where we only had 2 in the centre square (I think McGlynn was the guilty culprit)

Kick ins: Jetta who was leading our kick ins before the round only had 1. Possibly a sign he was playing further up the ground.

My 5 minute analysis of the above:

It's rare to come up against a side which is performing so poorly in so many of the key stats. In 13 of the team stats, Carlton are ranked 16th or below, which tells you how they are travelling at the moment. Surprisingly, they are ranked #1 in centre clearances, but this probably just reflects their midfield strength. Missing two of their top 5 clearance winners in Judd and Gibbs and their leading disposal winner in Murphy, all signs point to a big win to the Swans, but as we all know, matches aren't played on paper. I note that despite rumours of Ted's decline, he still leads the club in one-percenters, suggesting that he is spoiling as well as ever when he gets the opportunity.

And we still out clanger them....

It's pretty interesting seeing some of the contrasts in the competition wide tallies vs our game by game stats. For instance we're 15th in the competition for contested marks yet not one of our opponents this year has taken more contested marks than us in a game, which would suggest we're pretty damn good at stopping the opposition taking them.

If you look at the their game by game stats they actually only win the centre clearances against their opponents 50% of the time. I think them being 1st in clearances has more to do with the fact that there is more opportunity for centre clearances in their games due to the sheer amount of goals scored, which is largely due to them being s**t. So, while I'm sure their good starting midfield helps them win their share of clearances, in a way their number 1 ranking is just another indicator of how crap they are.

Haha yes. The thing is though, their midfield isn't completely s**t. Their three outs this week (even old man Judd) would get a start in any team, but the side has still been crap. Sooner or later they're bound to string a few decent games together, it's just unlikely to start this week given the players missing.

Good pick up, in fact we are the best in the league by some distance. We concede 6.1 CM per game, the 2nd best is Port with 7.5. The worst is the Dogs with 12.9.

Yeah I agree. The midfield still has to be good enough to win their share of those centre clearances.
