A definite change of plans in the middle, with McVeigh who had only started 40 centre square bounces (9.50%) finishing equal top with Kennedy and Mitchell. Most surprising was Hannebery only taking 1 centre bounce, down from 52.73% (3rd) prior to the game. The 2nd and 4th players on the list didn't take many either. Heeney got some good experience in the middle late in the 4th quarter

McVeigh continued on from where he finished last week, with his 12 centre bounces coming in the first 14 of the match. He didn't take part in the remaining 13. His place was taken by a combination of Hannebery and K.Jack. Hanners had 2 centre bounces in the first 14, and K.Jack didn't even attend one. Rampe took his first centre bounce since Round 4

grimlock would I be right in saying that McVeigh took part in none of the centre bounces in the second half, while Hannebery was involved from half time onwards until the game was lost?

So from that, a mix of McVeigh/Mitchell/Kennedy good while a mix of Hannebery/Jack/Parker bad

No one really lined up on Selwood and yes McVeigh was moved away from the centre bounces at half time

Useless facts of the day

GWS average the most bounces in the AFL by far: 15.7 per game way ahead of 2nd placed Gold Coast with 10.7

Swans average the least bounces in the AFL: only 91 in the whole season (4.8 per game)

In fact, Heath Shaw (#1 in the AFL) alone has only 12 less bounces than the entire Swans team put together.

Interestingly K.Jack didn't take another centre bounce after Parker went off and the void was filled by Rampe and once by Jetta. With GWS playing 4 tall forwards I don't think we can afford Rampe in the centre again. Hannebery who I believe is playing injured/sore, still taking a lesser percentage of centre bounces than he was earlier in the year.

So after all the talk pre-game about who would replace Mitchell and Parker in the middle, the answer was no one. The bulk of the workd was done by Kennedy and McVeigh and the 3rd spot shared between Hannebery and K.Jack. This was in stark contrast to GWS who rotated 7 midfielders in the 3 spots.

Reid can handle himself in the ruck but essentially, Towers = Crash test dummy.

Poor bugger

"Hey Towsa, you're in this week"
"Really Horse ? What position"
"You know how air-bags protect your precious ones from harm ?"
"Yeah"
"And you know how we need Pyke and Tippet kept safe for the finals ?"
"Yeah"
"You're their air-bag"

You people are so negative. The stats clearly show Bird is NOT the worst kick in the league, 2nd worst at the absolute extreme.

Although Mitchell returned to the team, he didn't receive as much time in the middle as expected.

Ruck wise, this is the first week since his return that Pyke has taken more centre bounces than Tippett.
