Hope he fails the medical, nobody wants him, we resign him and he goes on to score 30 goals a season for the next 10:rolleyes::rolleyes:
That's a nice tatt Ben Arfa's got Tiger.
Fitness guys are a big part of the picture these days. The Port Adelaide guy is ex Liverpool I think.Funny him talking about 'bringing out the stairs';I remember my dad telling me about some Scottish winger from the 30's or 40's who had real fitness and blistering pace who used to run up the stand steps again and again as part of his preseason stuff.

I think Remy is a done deal guys he's traveling to Boston today/tomorrow for a Medical

Haha oh well! Will be a good get for you guys!

I think a fit Carroll would be great for us but he'd need to take a big pay cut and I don't know if we'd be willing to pay so much for him. I'd go for $10m though. He was a hardworking player and given we are likely to play 1 up top this year, he's a proven target man. Plus, being a Geordie, you know he'd bust his gut for the team :)

Game day! The kickoff for the Sydney FC game is at 5.30pm here in Melbourne (and the game is apparently only being shown on Main Event). Going to have to rush home from work and try and find a stream of it somewhere!

Interesting words from Pardew:

Alan Pardew believes that Newcastle United’s tour of New Zealand is a key step in helping “grow” the club towards its long-term aim of playing in the Champions League.

Also, perhaps someone should tell Mr Ryder that NZ and Australia are 2 separate countries. I fully expect this tour would have got more media attention here in Aus IF the games were being played here!

"Newcastle United were front page news here in Dunedin ahead of their clash with Sydney FC.

But their clash with the A-League outfit has not captured the imagination of any of the Australian newspapers.

Indeed, while the Magpies were the lead story on the Otago Daily Times, the visit of Sydney to Dunedin was largely ignored by their home papers in the build-up to the game as Australian Rules Football dominates the agenda."

Team for Sydney friendly:

4-2-3-1
Elliot; Yanga-Mbiwa, Coloccini (c), S.Taylor, Haidara; Anita, Colback; Gouffran, de Jong, Aarons; Riviere

Subs
Alnwick, Abeid, Ameobi, Armstrong, Campbell, Dummett, Perez, Satka, Vuckic, Woodman

Looking forward to seeing how the new boys go (Colback, De Jong and Riviere plus Perez on the bench). Hope we give the likes of Abeid, Vuckic, Campbell and Armstrong run outs too!

The players warmed up in these tops apparently. Also nice to see some little tributes at the game as well!

I have just changed hotels today and don't seem to have as many sports channels as the previous one, don't think I'm any chance of seeing the game.:(

I got home just in time to watch the start of the second half. There are streams around :)

Your boys are killing it. Good to see the two new blokes get on the score sheet early in the piece.

3-0 with De Jong and Rivierie both on the scoresheet at half time. Playing quite well too for only our second hit out! Young Perez has just gone on so hopefully he can put 1 in the net too - no Cabella though Jatz, he's on an extended leave from his WC involvement :(

Nice touch from the club. Believe there was also going to be a minute's silence prior to kickoff.

He looked quite lively! Colback put in a good shift (and took set pieces) and Perez has shown some nice footwork too.

Young Armstrong just scored too 4-0!

This was seen in a Puma store in Malaysia apparently - looks like it might indeed be the new home kit.

I like the gold trim but that black top bit is a bit weird and we all know that the Wonga logo is a shocker (at least make it black instead of bright blue!) :drunk:

Comical mistake from the Sydney keeper for the first goal but still a tidy finish from De Jong.

Exciting to think we can still add Tiote, Sissoko, Cabella, Krul, Janmaat and possibly Cisse to our best 11/matchday squad.

Marveaux has moved to French Ligue 1 side Guingamp on loan for the season.

Is Wonga the lesser of 2 evils? :drunk:

The newly launched mobile casino brand Fruity King (www.fruityking.co.uk) is looking to "hit the ground running" according to it's head of marketing (Phillip Jones).

Jones said; "We have a healthy budget, we want to work with a Premier League team".

When asked specifically if there was a Premier League team in mind, Jones answered "Yes, Newcastle United, we are willing to pay a record breaking figure."

Also, we are top of the league (for miles travelled in preseason at least).

Gutierrez reportedly has been given permission to train with another PL club in the hope of getting a move. Pretty disappointing how he's been treated by the club after being a loyal and productive member of the team for a few years now. Hopefully he can get a move, we can get some money in and it's a win all round. Can't fault his attitude, work rate or not giving 100% to the team.

Why does the grubby end of town gravitate toward us??Surely couldn't be because everyone else would be ambivalent at least, but they know Cashly money and morality don't mix.
Agree wholeheartedly on Gutierrez has been one of our hardest working and team oriented players.Club should give him a golden handshake testimonial if he's past it.I'm sure it's only age related because all systems need up and back workhorses who aren't short on skill and if he could still do it he would.

Haha yeah! Trading legalised loan sharks for online gambling. As I read somewhere else, just the name 'Fruity King' also would open us up for a lot of jokes

Apparently Ben Arfa scored in a closed doors friendly a few days ago as well against Scottish side Queen of the South. Saw this picture - he doesn't look too overweight to me. Bigi also scored - he's another who seems to be on the outer which is a shame.

Bit of a quiet day transfer wise, some word we've put a $7m bid in for Lyon's Grenier and reports that Carroll is injured for 4 months (potentially stopping any prospective deal).

Thanks for the link.I'll watch that tomorrow.
Yeah Carroll has done his ankle and needs to start thinking about his devil-may-care-smash-and-grab style, cos he's just not playing any games.
Remember when Shearer sheared his ankle in some meaningless pre-season caper 10 years ago??
Not comparing the two it just came to mind.Andy needs to take a deep breath, calm down, become a little more able to avoid and manage injury.
A'course it could have been an unavoidable accident;but they're adding up!!

We finished the NZ tour with a 1-0 win over Wellington (I guess meaning we 'won' the tournament as we won both our games, scoring 5 and conceding none). Gouffran with the goal. May have come at a price as De Jong was taken off as a precaution and Colocinni, Abeid and Aarons also left the ground apparently grimacing.

Here's the goal:

In transfer news, the hunt for a striker continues and with Remy's move to Liverpool apparently collapsing overnight, I wonder if we will go back in for him? We can't offer Champions League but I'd like to think we have a better squad than QPR and can at least offer him the chance to play in a better side?

Another name is Argentine striker Facundo Ferreyra of Shakhtar Donetsk. Apparently he is concerned about the political climate in Ukraine (understandably) and a lot of other foreign players are concerned over returning to their club's and are looking at moves to safer countries. He scored 6 goals in 5 starts and 8 sub appearances last season and is 23. Don't know a great deal about him but he seems highly rated.

Today's transfer news.

Apparently Lyon sent out a tweet last night saying Grenier would be missing training due to travelling to Newcastle (was in French originally so I'm not sure how true the translation is/was). If we got him, surely we'd be too stacked in midfield unless either Hatem, Abeid or Obertan move on?

In terms of strikers, Pardew reportedly will be meeting the board to try and push another one through. Aubameyang would be my first choice but Remy would also be a great get if we could get him (Remy is the type of player though who might get itchy feet to move again if he does well and gets a few admirers).
