I know its another argument, but how is it the right thing ? Its just the wishes of yet another lobby group
Well on two levels one that 72% of the population support it and as a liberal I think it's easily justified. The problem is the ALP for all its progressive chatter is generally supported by neither progressive or open minded individual as Julia recognised.

Really ? Youd get that in a referendum ?

I suspect youd get more real support for the death penalty.

I never really got the "prove you are progressive by doing this" particualrly when the lobby group is just using it for an end and is not a general supporter.

Maybe the lobby group would be better of donating squillions to a certain party, but the money where the mouth is

That's what the polling suggests 72%, 48% rusted on.

Gillard will be largely forgotten about, except for being the first female Prime Minister and perhaps the last.

Well apart from arguing against your own point!, Gillard was part of a tumultuous period of Australian politics. That alone is guaranteed to give her a spot in the history books.

I think it likely Abbott will be the most forgettable of the two. I guess only time will tell.

I don't think even ALP people will hark back to her time in office, as they do for Gough, Hawke & Keating.

She successfully passed a lot of positive legislation in a minority govt. She was applauded loudly at Gough's funeral. Your analysis is incorrect.

But if we want to talk about negative places in history, Abbott delayed sitting parliament, then delayed most legislation until the Senate changed in July, then introduced not much legislation (last Autumn there were 18 pieces compared to 50 the previous year) and then couldn't get a lot of his announced legislation through that Senate. He survived a spill 7 months after that Senate change.

Yikes. His place in history is assured (why else do we know McMahon than for being the 'worst evaaa'?).

Do you think that the Australian constitution will soon be amended to have no position of Prime Minister? Or do you honestly think that in the many centuries to come, we will never ever have a female Prime Minister again?

There is no position of Prime Minister in the constitution.

Lol, tough audience they would be for a socialist to appease.

She wasn't as bad as Gough. That's about the only positive for her (and maybe NDIS which is about the only rational policy I can think of that she introduced).

Who was worse her or Rudd? Tough choice. At least he didn't incessantly whine like she did. Nor was he called before an RC. Plus he used rat farker. Gillard it is.

So its inconsistent with being in business and being a Fabian?

Comrades turning to the dark side - Recalls Bob Hawke in dinghy at time of WA Inc. Bob Kelty doesn't mind knocking back the good stuff either does he comrade? How long til Piggy Howes pops up on some boards?

Re Engels, not sure how he cant be called a hypocrite.

I suspect if she had waited and come to the office after Crazy Kev had handed it over to her, she would have made a good PM. Stood absolutely no chance and faced enormous challenges. Some of her own making, some bad decisions she made. But essentially she was hounded non stop, for pretty trivial stuff really -Thomson, Slipper, carbon tax shift, -such minor stuff for such over reaction. When I see how much more serious Abbott's actions are and he gets a free run-no fuss really about his significant and constant lying, his witch hunts, his failure to hold his nerve-squeals like a baby, his breaking of conventions re citizenship and boats... Herald sun-gutter rag cheerleads for him. Amazing. If it was Gillard, we would not hear the end of it.

Thats because he is protecting the big end of town & kicking the poorest in society. The fact he is trashing the things that have made the country such a great place to live, is a worry.

I guess we hope that enough fair minded people can wake up to his divisive, red neck policies. Otherwise we are bound to be like the USA, an unfair, greedy & nasty society.

The carbon and mining taxes made Australia a great place to live?

Why isn't this thread in QT? Are all the mods asleep?

The ghosts of moderators past...

The second one is from DR's "Abbott's School Reform" thread. Funny how 'conservatives' like to intimidate others into not expressing themselves.

held up a mirror lately?
