ESSENDON’S bid for a swift resolution to the World Anti-Doping Agency appeal has stalled with the international body being granted an extension to build its case.

WADA sought the 45-day extension on Friday after it was unable to outline its case to the Court of Arbitration.

But Essendon chief executive Xavier Campbell remains optimistic the delay will not extend the legal battle beyond this year.

“WADA have asked for an extension of 45 days which they’ve been granted,” Campbell told Triple M.

Essendon players will then have a further 20 days to respond.

“Obviously the preference of the club and the players is to expedite the process.

“Our preference is to get it done as quickly as possible.

“I don’t have any issue with the independence or the integrity of the process ... I guess the time frames are the ones if there’s a frustration that lies with that.”

Last week, WADA reportedly engaged gun US lawyer Richard Young to prosecute the players over allegations they used the banned peptide Thymosin beta-4.

Young played a key role in the anti-doping prosecution of disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong.

So is this to take time to go through all the evidence that ASADA has given WADA or is this because there is no case and need time to build one?

Suspect the answer is which team you support, personally I think its the former...

Update panel is set, briefs being exchanged so may be a go

everyone disagrees with me bar a couple of blokes banned simply because they got it right last time, pretty close myself, so when i go you guys can say what you want and wallow in your correctness

The process is exactly what the AFL and all clubs and players agreed to.

Why the constant hand wringing and crying about it from you?

So why is Campbell out there telling everybody what is happening with WADA? he has nothing to do with WADA, should be the individuals decision if we want to know about the extension. Sounds like some PR wars coming our way. trying to paint WADA as the bad guys

Word has it that this is how Robbo's run in with Keating went:

Reporter: You don't talk to ordinary people!

Keating: "Who says I don't? Who says I don't? I mean I see as many people as perhaps anyone in public life could..."

Reporter: How long is it since you've been to Fyshwick Markets?

Keating: "Not long, not long. In fact if you get down to woollies at Manuka on Saturday I'd probably run over you with a trolley as I did a journo recently."

Hopefully gives them enough time to build their case regarding AOD and whatever else that was against the drug code that, between ASADA, Essendon and the AFL, managed to vanish into thin air.

This is an appeal against the current charges not AOD etc - would epect anything like this have to go through the entire process again, SCN, tribunal etc - its an appeal not fresh charges.
