Tinkler hands in Jets Licence

The FFA would keep running the Jets if Tinkler departs the scene to maintain a 10 team comp. New TV money from next season would mean the FFA only needs to direct about 15% of it to the Jets to keep them afloat.

The suggestion that they have not heard from the Tax Office is the biggest furphy in history. I can guarantee you they have the letters indicating the need to pay up or else and we are at that juncture.

Two companies in the group are already being wound up with more to follow.

The knights fans have already developed a back up plan, maybe it's about time the jets think about one. It'll be a real shame if the s**t really hits the fan, tinkler has done a lot of good for both clubs.

That is a huge percentage though which could be spent growing the game. If the FFA need to keep another club afloat and miss out on money then it will set the game back, unfortunately.

Tinkler has been a god-send for both clubs, really grown both brands. To grow the Jets brand to what it is today in Newcastle has been remarkable and to take a strong Newcastle brand as the Knights and grow it to what it is now outside of the area is amazing. Unfortunate it seems the Jets didn't seem to think about the worse case scenario under the proposal to buy the club.

With the ability to continue to operate for 12+ months independently, and another set of backers with another proposal, the Knights were in a completely different negotiating position to the Jets. It was less about the Jets not having foresight, and more about them already being on the ropes and having to accept pretty much whatever terms Tinkler offered.

Hopefully Tinkler is going to prison for massive tax evasion.

0.0000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of that happening.
There is a huge difference between tax evasion and debt dodging.

Looks like it's Glory's turn to have a questionable future this week. Feds and Ato raided the office of Glory and a bunch of others owned by Tony Sage in an ongoing investigation over taxes. Ruh roh...

All the miners struggled this year due to the Chinese elections.
Not really suprised.

I hope this is when the FFA realise private ownership doesn't really work. Having one bloke being responsible for an entire organisation is insane. They have put their fingers in their eyes and sang "la la lah" long enough: These men are not reliable; not even particularly through character.

We have seen one club axed and two owners at risk of losing everything. It's unhealthy for the league. Having clubs and owners back down is tarnishing the sport's image. A lot of people think the game is all politics and naive decision making.

It's been a massive elephant in the room (and I don't mean Clive Palmer yuk yuk) for quite some time and Francis Leach is always on about. It does suck when a team is under control of the FFA though. They're given nothing to build a team and they're pretty much in a coma as far as promotion go...Glory were definately like that under the FFA before Sage came alongbut then again the woman put in control of the club at this time was completely out of touch.

Well not for this competition anyway; it's drawing too many people who are treating these teams like their new toy to play with.

Private ownership has its drawbacks but I'd like to hear some alternatives. The FFA doesn't have the money to run the clubs.

It's all very well saying that they should all be member-owned but they hardly have the membership bases to make that viable.

Eventually all A League clubs will be run by a large group of shareholders ala Melbourne Victory. Best way to go, no one person has too much power and financial responsibilities are shared. In the mean time private ownership is more then sufficient to get teams up and running. Tinkler's at the stage where he should be looking for other community based investors to buy shares in the club IMO. With the club pulling 11-12k crowds every week they are in a pretty good position
