I actually agree, I think he has shown that he may develop into one of the best key forwards in the comp, but not brilliant so far.

In terms of his individual performance he has shown glimpses but his presence has undoubtedly made us a much better football side. Allows other forwards to get off the chain and his ability to take pack marks at the highest point really is unmatched (due to his sheer size). Will only get better and better.

We think in time we will have at least 4 players who can kick 35 - 40 + goals a season (Stringer, Crameri, Boyd, Dickson) and the really good teams spread the load across multiple options. All of those guys are dangerous on their day.

Do Doggies fans think that Boyd has been brilliant so far this season?

He's been pretty good. Has made a pretty big impact every week without it showing on the stats sheet. A lot of goals have been created from his contests and a few of his free kicks have been given the advantage because our smaller guys have swooped. He's certainly made our forward line a lot more potent. Get's the best defender most weeks.

He's still prone to the occasional mistake. Has probably dropped 4-5 chest marks in space this year after leading hard up the ground and missed 2 absolute gimme goals last week. He still doesn't make enough leads in the forward line. Often just asks for it to be kicked on his head.

Overall I've been pretty impressed with him. I didn't expect much this year given how badly he was running in the pre season. He's the type of forward who will make the most of limited opportunities at the moment given how accurate he is. If he can get his fitness up and manage to present more often he'll create more opportunities for himself and become a really dangerous forward.

.

Have noticed Joe Daniher do this a lot too.

Maybe it's a lot to do with their junior careers. Unlike Hogan these two have always simply been too tall for opponents and have never needed to do much leading.

Ok maybe brilliants a bit far, but brilliant for his age and what he adds to the side is spot on. And I'll give you that he didn't get the best defender today because McPharlin didn't play but he has every other single game. If you'd have watched the dogs this year you'd know that no Stringer does not get the best defender. The only reason Jake has been so dominant this year is because Boyd is alongside him taking the pressure off.
Delaney, Grundy, Hartigan aren't the Saints, Swans or Crows' best defenders. Agree he got the best defender in a couple of other games though.

Hartigan was on Stringer. Talia was on Boyd - go back and watch the highlights.

If Hogan didn't exist, we would all be talking about how much potential Boyd has. Still VERY impressive for a 10 game Kpf.

Really in terms of playing style a comparison should be made with Boyd's Melbourne equivalent in Dawes. Both big bodied stay at home forwards and part time rucks. Dawes is eight years older and has played almost 100 more games, plus is being paid 500k a year (not that it matters what an employer is paying its employee).

He's kicked three goals this year, Boyd has kicked 10 while also getting more hitouts.

Who else would St Kilda play on him? Fisher isn't the right match up for him at all. Hartigan wasn't on Boyd at all so shows how much you've watched.

Talia was on Stringer for his sixth goal, when he ran into an open goal after Talia had been sucked to Boyd.

Before that it was Hartigan on Stringer, Talia on Boyd. You even see it with one of Boyd's goals, he marks in front of Talia who has a massive sook to his other defenders when he's on the mark.

Dawes isn't a "stay at home forward" his entire game revolves around working up the ground.

If you say so. Talia was on Stringer for at least part of that game and Hartigan went to Boyd.

Talia was on Stringer for the best part of 5 minutes (Stringer took like 2 marks on him as well) then Stringer was subbed off so Talia went back to Boyd.

Boyd always gets the best defender, half the reason why we got him to free up Stringer and Crameri.

So you just confirmed that doggiesftw was wrong. The bolded is just not true.

By best defender it obviously has to be the right matchup in terms of playing size but yes Boyd get the best KPD every game.

I'm guessing Tom McDonald (your best defender) will be his main match up this week.

Delaney played on him against us and he isnt our best defender.

A lot less wrong than you by saying he played on Hartigan, yes okay he spent literally less than 5 mins on him, obviously that happens in this day and age with rotations no player spends every single minute on the ground on the one player, doesn't mean you can't say "they played on player X". Stringer kicked 5 on Hartigan because Boyd was taking Talia off him. Even his 6th that he kicked on Talia came because Talia got drawn into covering Boyd and Stringer got loose.

Why are you even arguing this, Boyd takes the best defender, although sometimes when the best defender isn't a good match up he gets the biggest defender, who cares? At the end of the day he's hitting the scoreboard while being the main reason Stringer has been dominant and we've been much better.

Seems to me you're trying to argue for the sake of it, maybe someone's getting a little concerned their team continues to be pathetic and Boyd is quickly catching their "star, once in a generation" messiah. Don't blame ya:

If your suggesting that Fisher is your best defender which probably is the case then Fisher would have been giving up 10 centimetres to Boyd. Delaney takes the biggest and best forwards each week. Fisher wouldn't be playing on Cloke/Hawkins/Tex Walker types for long during a game, those opponents are given to Delaney.

Delaney plays on the full forward or who ever plays closest to goal. We wouldn't waste Fisher on Boyd.

You wouldn't waste Fisher on any KPF unless you absolutely had too. Your club try and give Fisher the 3rd tall forward so he can also provide rebound as well because he is good at it.

It's similar to how we try and free up Bob Murphy (our best smaller defender). We wouldn't play him on Eddie betts because Bob would have to be highly accountable on a gun small forward. Instead we try and play him on the worst forward so hes not as accountable and can provide drive.

I'd prefer Hogan. Boyd is going to be a star, not denying that. But Hogan's athleticism is rarely seen in players his build. He's a freak

Nope, looks like McDonald's on your best forward (Stringer).

And Fitzy's on Boyd lol. He's not even a defender, let alone our best.

Thought Boyd was unlucky should have at least got two handballs.
