Article on page 3 of the Age's Domain section about Tony selling a beach house states that he is currently a television commentator and has an insert of a picture of him that is I would say from his old ABC pipe smoking days. Does he actually appear on TV these days?

He sold me my house - complete with reefer jacket and pipe. Talk about cutting a dash. Absolutely charming .. and we've stayed put for over 20 years. Had some laughs about having a kick in the back yard .. it was suggested that he may have trouble keeping it in play !

Hi Roy Boys,

I was lucky enough to sit down with Tony Ongarello for a couple of hours and ask him about his time in footy. He was an absolute gentleman and it was a pleasure to talk with him. If you are interested in his story, please follow the link below.

My grandfather Frank "Hoot" Gibson played for Fitzroy in the late '20s and early '30s, he also coached Tony at Thornbury YCW. Below is an article about him too.

Tony spoke with real fondness about Fitzroy, and good humour about himself. I hope you enjoy the read.

Greg.

Was Tony born overseas or have at least one parent born overseas? If so, I am disappointed that Tony didn't make the squad of 50 in the AFLs Multicultural Team of Champions.

He did tell me his ancestry. I believe he is Italian on both sides. I can't recall exactly what he said, but it was something like his mother was from Italy, but was living in Melbourne and went to London for a Holiday, where she met his father who had traveled there from Italy. They then both moved back to Melbourne to create Onga and the legend of the place kick!

I hope I haven't got that wrong.
