Was blown away when I first heard Tinariwen's hypnotic desert guitar sounds. Seems they've inspired a whole scene, with a recognisable Tamasheq guitar style.

And these guys are the coolest looking rockstars in the world.



Many have been rebel fighters against the Malian Government and Al-Quaida, and the songs reflect the struggle.

Was lucky enough to catch Omara "Bombino" Moctar from Niger at this year's Golden Plains Festival, which I thought was the highlight of the weekend
