Other TV Coverage in Australia

Primetime paintball etc.....

i dont mind that at all. A dedicated sports channel. A dedicated news channel. A dedicated movies channel. A dedicated sitcom channel.

This is what free to air should have.

ABC already got to the news channel, but your point is valid. Problem is that some of those options are probably more lucrative than others.

The issue with a dedicated sports channel here is if you don't have one of the "big 3" over here, it basically becomes a niche channel, which may not necessarily be a bad thing, but when your best content is in the morning and not in prime time, it becomes an issue.

Would be good if whoever got the NFL on their channel showed a "match of the day" sort of thing at maybe 8:30pm, compressed down like gamepass. :thumbsu:

I don't understand why One never did that - SNF is, in theory, match of the week. It begins at 12.30pm on a Monday our time - why the hell weren't they condensing it down to 2 hours and showing it in prime time on a Monday night?

It always confused me... it's always been easy enough for ESPN to do...

I mentioned previously that that the socialist in me wishes there was FTA football for everyone to watch. But even removing the ideological fantasy and looking at it realistically... well, you don't have to offer premium content for free, but it still has to benefit your product to have a free to air presence in a country where everyone doesn't have cable.

All that said... I guess the rampant capitalist in me has stopped caring in the week or so since this news broke. With an iphone and a recently bought Apple TV, I don't care whether it's on FTA next season - I'll have Gamepass for at least as long as I live in Canberra and have access to great internet. Going forward, whether it's Canberra or elsewhere, internet speed will be one of the first things I ask when I move house, purely so I can keep Gamepass. I wouldn't be without it now, tv coverage or not.

For some unknown reason or another.. you just know that the 'care factor' isn't there anymore and with programming changing in total.. they've overhauled the sporting theme whether it's niche or not.

Just don't rate ONE anymore as a viable TV channel option.. they're complete amateurs with no soul for providing a program with any intent or purpose.

It was great while it lasted.. give 'em that.. but now..

I'd be interested in how One's ratings compare now to 4 years ago when it was a sports channel. With the exception of NFL and America's Game, I can't think of anything that I watch on One. Sport would've been more expensive than a lot of their current programming, and I agree that too much of what One showed was niche - but I can't imagine they get ratings anything like they got when they actually gave us a reason to watch.

That's the problem with all digital multi-channels in Australia. Networks see them as more of a hassle than an opportunity, and none of them give us any reason to watch their multi-channels (with the exception of bumping NRL in Melbourne and AFL in Sydney to the multi-channels)

Polling the NFL thread about what they would want to watch on ONE is probably a slightly biased sample of people you think?

If replays worked then I would have assumed AFL would have been more heavily replayed on FTA channels back in the day where recording and streaming games was less commonplace and as far as I know the only regular season AFL game ever replayed was north vs essendon about 15 years ago where north led by 10 goals and lost 171 to 159

Very good finds guys :)

I'm a Game Pass convert, but I love the game having a FTA presence here. The more converts, the greater the likelihood of a game down here some day.

I think marks announcement could be that Reggie Bush is coming on the show.

I'd obviously be stoked if I was wrong though.

Sunrise are reporting that Channel 7 have signed a 5 year deal to telecast the NFL, what that involves I'm not sure as I can't find a link anywhere. At least the Superbowl will be on FTA for the next 5 years, if nothing else.
