If you can hack it. American footy is a good sport to get involved in the whole game, even if you're not an important player. There's always someone to hit away from the ball :thumbsu:

Sorta, but maybe more overs, less players, and like I said, batting length restrictions.
As someone who's played. 20 overs, 7 players, bring the boundary in, would be my suggestion.

This intense focus of the ANZAC day commemorations is out of control, and the overwhelming significance placed on the Gallipoli landings alone opposed to other war events involving Australians is disrespectful.

8700 Australians died at Gallipoli, out of the 56,000 Allies that died there and the 62,000 Australians that died during WW1, and the 100,000+ Australians that have died across all wars.

Gallipoli was an invasion. We invaded Turkey. The Allies killed 56,000 Turks who were just defending their country - yet it is seen as the event that forged our national identity???? It was a complete disaster in all accounts FFS.

6,500,000 Allied soldiers died in WWI to give us the way of life we live today. Not just 8700 in a disastrous invasion on another country. How about we spare a thought for them?

And f**k off to this corperatisation of ANZAC day. Companies profiting from advertising at every opportunity. Shows how far we have come to stoop this low.

I undestand your point but if you frequent the Kings park dawn service in Perth on Anzac day before the ceremony starts they will show footage and have commentary on a particular battle each year whether it is WW1, WWII, Vietnam or whatever. They will talk about the history of the battle, who was involved and its quite a moving experience.

There certainly is no focus just on the gallipoli landings.

Turn on your tv or radio - its overwhelming. Gallipoli was an absolute disaster. We invaded someone elses country and assisted in killing 56,000 others defending their land in the process. How can this be seen as the forging of our national identity? Without the loss of many more Australian and foreign lives in other conflicts across the world, we wouldn't even be here.

Now we are glamorising it all, and corporations are using every opportunity to make a buck.

ANZAC Day themed guernseys are no less cringeworthy than throwing parades for veterans IMHO

Do away with any celebration of the military. The world should collectively look back on WW1 and WW2 and cringe with embarassment. Never forget it, teach it in history classes of course, but stop celebrating anything to do with it.

Mate - you bro's kicked it all off back in the day!!! Stop trying to brush it under the carpet ;)

Glorifying it to rid a guilty conscience?

You do realise why the date and Gallipoli are significant I guess?

what celebration?

Mate of mine conned me into going to a dawn service this morning, because everyone else had bailed on him. 40,000+ people, the corporate sponsors laid wreaths, and whoever was filming the official party for the big screen seemed to have been taking lessons from Leni Riefenstahl. After they showed that fake footage from Tamarama Beach, and the third speaker in a row made an allusion to lions led by donkeys, I sort of tuned out.

The whole day is a bit of an embarrassment. I'm sure the military will receive a nice boost in enlistments on Monday though.
