It's the first one not done by JJ Abrams which I think is the major reason for the hate.

A lot of fans hated his two films, especially the last one. The reaction is the perception of it following in the steps of those two, rather than differing from them.

As a long time fan, I actually liked the last two, but I get shouted down a lot...

Looks awesome hey, directed by Shane Black and looks to have a very Kiss Kiss Bang Bang feel to it. I personally can't wait for this one, also the girl playing Goslings daughter is from Perth. She was the girl in the Aussie flick These Final Hours.

Absolutely, though replace Lars and the Real Girl for The Place Beyond the Pines for me. He's got a style that won't always work, even with great writing and direction, but there's no doubt he's a talent who is building a very solid resume.

Can't see if it has been released in Australia but looks like Netflix may have it in February.

It's based off a T.V series that finished a couple of years ago. The show was brilliant so this should be as well.
