WACA Wallys

As someone who only ever sees the WACA on TV the thing that annoys me most is their sight-screen arragnements.
They've covered seats in white/black material but not high enough so you still have to move the sight-screen to get the ball coming out of the white background. This was the cause of the delay the other day as well.

During the World Cup all venues were required to block off the whole sight-screen area so that nothing needed to move. Best practise was enforced. And yet the venues aren't willing to continue this on afterwards. Why CA is happy with this arrangement, I don't know. Moving the sight-screen slows down play (not usually by 17 minutes but still!).

Advertising revenue would be my guess. The sight-screens are prime advertising space, they become massive billboards every alternate over.

I guess that's why they are so heavy and need an electric motor to shift them on their tracks.

Adelaide Oval still use the advertising screens as required by CA or whoever is running the match. They just don't need to be moved. The only risk is then if the software fails or some looser walks in front of it. If it breaks down they can just cover it with a white sheet until it's fixed.

Michael Thompson on 6PR this morning said that the WAFC's move to the WACA is almost a done deal. A WAFL club will also move into the WACA, probably East Perth, and there will be regular night matches at the WACA.
First they need to make the ground longer, its not even 150 metres so they cant play until that is done

Barnett has said the Government will give the WACA money to expand and upgrade the ground if the WAFC move in and they need to make the ground longer.

Isn't the minimum length of a ground for WAFL/AFL 130m? It'd have that covered. Obviously it will need some reworking, but for WAFL it wouldn't need all that much.
I don't think you can have a ground less than 150m goal-to-goal if you're playing any level above about under 14's.
AFL and state-leagues play on full-length fields, as do the respective state underage comps.

The Nationals aren't going to flip sides, they'll return a Liberal/National Government if it is.

Labor has said they won't do a deal with the nats........so I guess you are right

What year were those concrete light towers put it at the WACA?
I still cant believe the West Coast and Freo played AFL footy there.. it wouldn't have fit more than 30K in there back then? and the eagles even hosted the 94 prelim there!

Subi didn't fit much more back in the day. It was only the redevelopment for the Olympic soccer in the late 90's that got the attendance up to 42k today.

Most of those crowds (bar the concerts) would've been before the days where there was less concern for spectator safety (noting they once got 65k into Footy Park for a Grand Final where people were sitting on the boundary line and on the time clock).
