Has the Peel v East Colts game been postponed or something?

The match was changed to 5pm, the WAFL website didn't update their page. Peel won by 74 points.

They're too dominant at that level. It's a huge positive for the club.

Not really. Peel's colts have been good for the most part over the last decade or so. They have a lot of talented kids in that region, some of whom get picked up in the AFL (Farren Ray, Daniel Wells, Harley Bennell et al) while others don't but are still pretty good players.

There's generally a huge drop-off after Colts has finished for whatever reason, the younger guys either go to other WAFL clubs based in the Perth metro area, some will go play in the local league or in the amateurs and some stop playing altogether (work, uni etc). Mandurah isn't that far away from Perth but it's far away enough that the younger brigade want to spend time doing other things whether it be football elsewhere or whatever else they have planned so playing for Peel isn't a priority anymore.

It's a shame because the area does have a lot of good younger players, quite a few of whom have been drafted. Peel has a couple of Colts' premierships as well so they can be (and generally have been) a pretty decent side.

With the alignment with Fremantle there's also less incentive to play at the club, these younger guys will find it harder to play for the Thunder at league level given there's an assortment of Fremantle players playing in their league side. So it becomes harder for those guys to break through as the Fremantle listed players get priority over the younger kids. The end result is they get stuck in the reserves and the majority will go play elsewhere, either at another WAFL club or at another club altogether. The same thing has happened at East Perth and their alignment with West Coast Eagles, the Royals had several younger players who played reserves mostly all of last season after playing Colts at the club. Those players ended up leaving and are playing at other WAFL clubs this season.

Round 16 was pretty easy with just about everyone getting all four games correct. The majority of the round was pretty good, including the TV game which went down to the wire. getgaff got the bonus point this week to finish with five points for the round.

Overall there's no change at the top, freofan_mundy still leads on 44 points with hansie, swannies and thorne89 all tied for second place on 43 points. Rounding out the top five are Military_man and myself with 41 points.

Round 17 Fixtures

Swan Districts vs West Perth at Steel Blue Oval (Saturday 2:15pm, margin)
East Perth vs Perth at Medibank Stadium (Saturday, 2:15pm)
Claremont vs Peel Thunder at Claremont Showgrounds (Saturday, 2:15pm)
East Fremantle vs South Fremantle at ATOM Stadium (Sunday, 2:15pm)
Bye: Subiaco

Round 17 is upon us with some pretty good games this weekend. Swan Districts host West Perth in what should be a cracker while East Perth play Perth at Medibank Stadium and Claremont take on Peel Thunder at the Showgrounds. Rounding out Round 17 is another Fremantle derby, this time at ATOM Stadium with the Sharks fighting to keep their season alive.

Unfortunately there's no TV game this week so I've selected the Swans vs Falcons match as the margin game, that will be a great game and likely a close encounter. Some rain is forecast over the weekend but hopefully that stays away so we can see some good football. Also, if you're into your Colts' football, Claremont are playing Peel Thunder on Wednesday night (that's tomorrow night) at the Showgrounds, commencing at 7pm. Happy tipping!!
