Prior has just given Sir Michael Apeness an absolutely huge rap on 720.Talking in terms of him being already the best contested pack mark on the list and was similarly complimentary about his running ability;basically said he was covering more ground than virtually any player which means he is at least the equivalent of Matt Taberner.:D
Also realised I'd underestimated Prior;was particularly thoughtful and skilful with all the Qs about The Flash.Impressive.:thumbsu:

I would have perhaps thought its as much his soccer background, following a ball magnet around as an education for where to run. His skills and evasion are too good for him to be a pure tagger ;)
Worked for kieren jack. Look at the bloke now.

if grey ends up half that good that'd be brilliant. Some similarities in size, pace and lateral movement. Surprisingly enough for a soccer player he seems pretty comfortable with contact and tackling.

just needs to do as much work on his kicking as jack has, because jack has turned out a very good kick.

True - but I'm not thinking about him being a pure tagger.

Right now Crowls does a great job as a shut-down player, but he's also a good size, very strong and can kick a goal or two as a pure mid if necessary, plus his role as the shut-down tagger is the most predictable facet of our game.

My thought is: as opposed to having one midfielder who's a dedicated tagger, I would much rather have a tag-team of designated taggers in the mid-field, ones who could also pick up a lot of their own ball in the process.

Crowls is a good tagger because he has a good tank - but there's still better tanks around than his and his effectiveness can drop off once he gets tired - plus every opposition player is just itching for a chance to bump or wrestle him off the ball in order to tire him out as much as possible.

Plus good as Crowls is, he can't tag guys like Rioli for example 'cause he doesn't have the speed.

Brady is nuggety enough to go in hard as an inside mid, and while he's no speedster I hear he's still pretty quick - and yes he's extremely nimble, which makes him a good prospect as a pinch-hit tagger for outside mids as well as inside ones.

Assuming the current crop of young guys really step up over the next year or so, then we've got a team full of quality swingmen. We will need to be able to swing the taggers around as well in order to take advantage.

A tag-team of taggers?

The amount of work the best ones put into their targets would be huge i reckon. They would have an intimate knowledge of what their opponent will do in almost any situation, where they prefer to run, etc. it is a specialist role.

Bondy and Lloyd rated Apeness the best contested mark in last year's draft pool too.

Jasus! The last thing we need in our team is more taggers. A couple more with some x-factor however........

Crowley is not getting any younger and a tagger that can accumulate like a midfielder, a-la Cameron Ling, would be invaluable.

Grey is a natural midfielder with time on his side...I like it personally

Not really sure where to start... so I won't.

Reckon it's worth a shot as an education. Hard to see it as a good fit as a long term role though.

Like the idea of Brady developing that knowledge in the seconds for a year or two, with a run in the ones if he's doing well. He looks like he great instincts and physical capability as a creator and a ball winner, too small for a versatile tagger in the longer term I reckon

De Boer will become an even better tagger than Crowls in my opinion... but Crowls will be doing that job for a while yet.
