Walters dislocated the tendon in his ankle during Fremantle’s loss to Hawthorn at the MCG last Friday night.

Scans of the injury have been reviewed by a Melbourne specialist.

General manager of football operations Chris Bond said: “At this stage the medical advice is that we should wait a week to 10 days to allow the swelling in Michael’s ankle to subside before having further scans.

“After the surgeon has reviewed and reported on those scans next week, our medical team will be best placed to make a decision on whether or not surgery is required.”

Peroneal sublux? :(

I thought the other tendons required a break to dislocate but I might be thinking of the ligaments.

Treatment
What can be done for the problem?

Nonsurgical treamtment for peroneal tendon subluxations helps control symptoms. However, nonsurgical treatment of acute subluxations in active patients is successful only about 50 percent of the time. Chronic cases of peroneal subluxation that have not responded to nonsurgical measures generally require surgery.

Nonsurgical Treatment
If the injury is acute, treatment without surgery may involve placing the ankle in a short-leg cast for four to six weeks. The goals are to allow the torn retinaculum to heal and to prevent chronic subluxation. Doctors may have their patients begin physical therapy once the cast is removed.

Your doctor may also prescribe medications. Anti-inflammatory medications can help ease pain and swelling and get you back to activity sooner. These medications include common over-the-counter drugs such as ibuprofen.

There you go, give him a couple of ibuprofen and tell him to get his lazy arse back to training.

Looking on the bright side, this gives Crozier a few weeks to try claim a spot in the side.

I really hate these shoulder injuries! Ibbo needs surgery. I say take the 12 weeks and get ready for the last 8 rounds. I can't see him nursing the injury being a defender

and surgery

Patients who have surgery are usually placed in a short-leg cast for six weeks. A special walking boot is then worn for another four weeks. Patients usually start formal physical therapy once the cast is removed. Rehabilitation after surgery can be a slow process. You will probably need to attend therapy sessions for two to three months, and you should expect full recovery to take up to six months.

Since he is an AFL player you'd expect him to be out for about 12 weeks if surgery is required. So its basically 6-12 week injury.

Its 2010 all over again...nah not that bad :p Really sucks as i thought walters could be an AA this year

Crozier will be the replacement however IF Simpson can consistently play it would be a nice swap (Classy midfielder/small forward)

Every time we need information someone has an answer ,thanks for that we do appreciate your knowledge .

dep

depends what you call close. coming on in leaps and bounds in terms of fitness and his confidence.
never been any question over his skills.
if the injuries keep piling up he is not without a chance to play sooner rather than later.

I agree! I'm excited about his progress but he's still too flimsy for AFL. I wasn't convinced at all by the peel game. But I'm all for giving him games and showing the intensity required. A team with Sheridan, Hill, D.Pearce and Simpson makes us very vulnerable inside with Barlow and Fyfe out. Even though D.Pearce and Hill have been decent inside this year so far.

I look forward to him a having a few games later in the season, especially as a sub where i think he could be damaging.
