A slow 26-27 yr old with a heap of courage and ordinary skills taking the spot on the list of a kid that could have developed into a regular that's holding down a spot right now just to save Rattens short term arse. He was an extremely poor list decision that characterizes our past list management and where we find ourselves today.

We finished in the 8 in 2010 and fancied ourselves a chance in the following years. We were plugging holes and strengthening the list in areas we felt it was required in preparation for what we thought would be a flag assault. Unfortunately we weren't as good or as ready as we thought, but the 'top up' thinking with guys like Duigan at the time was okay. It wasn't much different to what Collingwood did in 2010 or what the Hawks and Swans do nowadays (but FA makes it easier for them now.) It's just a shame we overestimated the capabilities of our list and we were not even close to the quality of those other lists.

Betts was going whichever way and the club knew it in advance.

He was a restricted free agent, it was our choice. We decided to throw huge coin at mick's son instead.

Garlett had made his own bed and wanted to leave the club.
If the club were going to make a stance, they had to do it now anyway. He was gone.

No he wasn't, we made no attempt to keep him and even announced to the world we were ditching him, hence removing any leverage we had at the trade table.

Robinson? You're not pining over him, surely?

When you have duds like Tutt, Blaine Johnson, Ellard et al getting games, Robinson is a huge upgrade.

Waite wanted two years and we wouldn't cough up.
Was never going to help in a re-build.........he wasn't exactly the best example around the club either.

Once again, when you have spuds like White, Rowe and Jones getting a game.....don't get me started on Laidler.

Mick decimated the list? Yeah right. :)

All four were in our best in our last finals win, just a year before they were let go (month in Betts case). And people wonder why we are now so shight. So yeah, Mick decimated the list.

You absolute fool. We were ready to challenge, the recruitment of Duigan was fine. He did contribute greatly to our best win since 1999. It's the recruitment of blokes like Daisy, Jones and Tutt when we WERE NOT ready to challenge and the loss of quality players like Betts, Garlett, Robbo and Waite that has us in this predicament. Not rocket science. Mick decimated the list and now we're screwed.

I stopped reading after, ready to challenge. Who are you Danny Frawley? way to overate ones list.

My favourite part of BF is when people state things for facts, like "we didn't try to keep XYZ player".

Didn't know we had so many posters sitting in on numerous player manager / football department meetings, listening in to dozens of phone calls, reading hundreds of club internal emails, telepathically reading the player's mind and receiving copies of contract offers. Quite a coup for us :thumbsu:

HARKER Just on Betts, it was up to us, all we needed to do was match the offer. Swann and Malthouse pretty much told him they didn't think he was worth any more. Boy were they wrong. They had their eyes on their son. There is a reason Swann and Mick are no longer here. We absolutely had the power to keep Betts.

I'd be more worried about your club Sam95
No coach, no captain and you've just drafted a 19 year old with less than 10 games experience to a multi million and multi year contract that makes him the HIGHEST PAID player every at the Whitten Oval.

And you're still paying a pretty portion of Griffen's contract as well.

And you're Brownlow Medalist couldn't wait to get out the joint.

Whilst you guys have turned it around quicker than most expected, the boyd deal may still be a crippler to your club. If you're Stringer or Bont and you see Boyd earning a million bucks a season and not winning the Coleman, you're going to want similar $$$, and the club wont be able to fit them all in the cap.

True- but that's football. Great to see the doggies up and about in 2015. Well done I say. I'll be a happy Bagger if we can do the same or similar for 2016 and onwards.
Thanks for your input, now run along young fella. Back to the doghouse for you.
Good luck in 2016.

What hasn't changed is that Tom Boyd is still underwhelming and on a bazillion dollars per possession. Now run along dishlicker and snipe somewhere else.

Poor list decisions don't win you finals off their own boot.

Yes, just think of all that top-end talent that came after pick 70 in the 2010 draft.
