Word was he did it the day we Rookied Him when he was doing his last day of Pre-Season at Claremont

Don't think so? It was mentioned here.

He worked at the Department of Fire and Emergency Services this year and improved his fitness to the point where he was starring in the league side. He kicked five goals in a win over Swan Districts despite playing all his junior football off half-back.

The gains meant that when torn ankle ligaments robbed him of the chance to test better at this year's combine, it didn't kill off his draft chances.

Considering his odds of playing senior footy this season were pretty marginal, this isn't a massive blow. Rehab will give him a good opportunity to get his fitness right, and give him a launchpad for the rest of the season.

If his ankle needs surgery he can't work on fitness while he isn't playing.

(***Mod edit: two threads merged. Boris beat TD 'by that much'...so it's his OP ***Mod edit)

Just wanted to see if I could beat TD.

........

His profile lists him as a defender, midfielder and forward so he is a bit of an unknown quantity as a footballer. One thing is certain about the western journeyman, however and that is his outright enormity. The man is a beast and has already been called the Big Show, the Bandit, Tony, the Hulk, the Smuggler and now the Redhead's Executioner by posters on this very board.

Taking a leaf out of the book of his namesake and fellow West Aussie the infamous Postcard Bandit, Brenden is stealing a career as Collingwood's last live pick in the rookie draft. With the Pies boasting a rookie honour role including Lockyer, O'Brien, Maxwell, Blair, Wellingham, Macaffer, Toovey, Williams and now Keefe and Frost, Brenden has found himself an excellent home.

Welcome aboard.
Poor kid

He can do a lot of upper body, get in the pool after a reasonably short while, then the bike - lots of options.

Surely he couldn't ride a bike if his ankle is screwed. You don't get fitness from upper body work outs. He might tone up a bit but his fitness will be well down when he gets back.

You underestimate what can be achieved in a pool. He would then progress from the pool to a bike (not as much strain on the ankle as running).

But yeah, swimming is extremely good as a low impact fitness building exercise. He will likely be fitter when he starts running again than he is now if he is given the right program.

Either way it's unfortunate that he has this injury. However 'fit' he is upon his return, he would be miles further advanced if it hadn't occurred. It's a setback but it seems we were aware of it.

No doubt we were aware of it if it was the reason he missed the draft combine...?

Have you ever seen a piece of equipment in the gym that looks like a bicycle you operate with your hands?

That's what he will use.
