Western Warriors - 2014/15 Thread

This means we simply must get Paris fit and in the Shield side ASAP.

Paris has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Fully agree, but can't see the selectors dropping Hogan, NCN or Dorf if push comes to shove.

First grade batting aggregate makes for interesting reading;

8 How, Calum Subiaco Floreat CC 12 14 2 2 1 0 54 1 920 132 453 37.75 59.8
9 Wheater, Adam J Perth CC 10 12 1 1 2 1 48 9 603 109 439 39.91 95.4
10 Godfrey, James Willetton 12 12 2 1 3 1 50 750 101* 420 42.00 65.1

Out of those, you'd probably rule a line through Towers, Swart and Johnston getting another go.

Bowling is a little bit simpler - the day Ty Hopes gets a black cap is the day I move interstate.

Decent bowler, particular at indoor level. Shame he has to let everyone know about it though. Joondalup side is full of dickheads bar a select few younger players.

no Aston Turner:confused:
that kid would have to be one of the more exciting prospects going around in state cricket
He's not refined enough for Shield yet, Mrs Turner :)

It's also at the WACA where a strong pace attack + Agar is ideal.

Personally I rate Turner as a better spinner than Agar. Agar though turns it the other way which always gives CA selectors a hard on.

Turner is a batsman who can bowl part time. Agar is a genuine bowling all-rounder, and the better spinner.

Paris has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Is this new info? I ask because there was a Hagdorn article a while back (early-mid bigbash) saying he was done for the season, followed by an interview with Langer only a couple of days later where he specifically called out Paris as nearing a return, to which I figured "typical Hagdorn".

All that said, wouldn't be surprised if he's since re-injured himself and really is out for the season now...

What disappoints me though is that most of those fans who are celebrating the Scorchers win probably have no idea that we won the One Day Cup nor that we're a good chance to win the Shield. For them domestic cricket starts and finished with the Perth Scorchers and they wouldnt know who the Western Warriors are
Except, who cares? Most of those people were never going to care about Western Australian cricket prior to the Big Bash. At least now a lot more people are getting to the cricket and at a few people will transition that interest over to other formats. WA is making a profit from T20 which means they can actually support a domestic side in other formats and further investment can be made into improving resources, coaching and local cricket. That's not even mentioning the unknown impact of the kids interest in WA cricket for the next generation. To me, you can have your cake and eat it too, but you eating your cake doesn't stop anyone else from doing it as well.

He reinjured himself after the Matador Cup injury but they've decided not to bring him back by Shield, with suggestion he shouldn't play State cricket for a year

Yes, that was what I had read prior to hearing an interview with Langer that he was close to a return. I don't have the original article handy, so was just wondering which of these was most current - was hoping there had been another update.

Then again, in the interview Langer was basically talking up the strength of the WA bowling lineup so possibly just threw Paris in to make it seem a longer list.

Coults should be back right?

WA Warriors tried to lure veteran spinner Brad Hogg back to Sheffield Shield cricket

All-rounder Nathan Coulter-Nile, who only recently recovered from a hamstring injury, is likely to be given another match off to build up his bowling loads.

“He’s super fit now, which is really positive. He’s lost 8kg and his skinfolds are down to 43,” Langer said of Coulter-Nile.

“But in Shield cricket you have to bowl 15 or 20 overs a day. All the research tells us those sort of spikes put him more at risk.

“With hopefully five games to go, we can’t afford to take that risk yet.”
