Brisbane hold on against comeback Power!

Brisbane have held on to win by 1 point over Port Adelaide, in front of 35,636 at the Adelaide Oval.
Angus Monfries had the chance to kick the winning goal late in the quarter, but hit the post.
Mitch Robinson was outstanding finishing with 36 touches, playing off the wing. Jed Adcock and youngster Josh McGuiness finished with 29 and 27 touches respectively, playing off half back. Brisbane's key forwards Brent Staker and Dan McStay were well held by Jackson Trengove and Alipate Carlile, kicking just the 1 goal between them from 9 disposals.
For Port Adelaide, Jasper Pittard collected 35 touches playing of half back, while wingmen Brad Ebert and Mason Shaw got 28 and 29 touches respectively, the latter just missing out on the NAB rising star nomination for round 5.

Port Adelaide again rued the missed opportunities throughout the game, going down by 1 point for the 2nd time in 3 games.
Robbie Gray kicked 1.3 and Angus Monfries kicked 2.3

Power coach Ken Hinkley had this to say after the game
"Again the boys are bitterly disappointed after today, especially Gus (Angus Monfries). The boys played really poorly in the 1st half, then came out and played out of their skins to get the lead back at 3 quarter time."
"Some of our younger guys were really impressive today. I though Jasper Pittard played his best game today, so did Mason Shaw and Paul Stewart was really good playing as our 3rd tall in defence."
"Sam Colquhoun, Mitch Harvey and Darcy Byrne-Jones are all in line to make their debuts next week, Mitch would be top of that list after kicking 10 goals for West Adelaide."

RECRUIT RYDER SHINES AS PORT GET FIRST WIN OF SEASON!

Port Adelaide have come a 20 point deficit at half time to snatch the win from Adelaide by 3 points!
Angus Monfries kicked 3.3 and kicked the winning goal with half a second to go on the clock!
Ruckman Paddy Ryder won the medal for best on ground with 24 touches 11 marks 2 tackles 19 hitouts and 2 goals.
Matthew Broadbent and Brad Ebert collected 25 touches each in the win, while forwards Jay Schulz and Mitch Harvey kicked 5 goals between them.
For Adelaide, Matthew Wright amassed 36 touches, while Patrick Dangerfield got 29 and a goal.

Here are some of Power coach Ken Hinkley's comments about the game.
"I thought that our performance in the first half was lethargic and we didn't put any effort into it. I had a go at the boys at half time, mainly stating that our effort and attack on the ball was poor. Then the boys came out and kicked 7 goals to 3 in the 3rd term to lead by 3 points."
"I thought that Mitch (Harvey) was really impressive. He kicked 2 goals and gave Ryder a chop out in the ruck. He gave our forward line another dimension when he played. He will be playing next week, no doubt about it."
"Jasper Pittard gave us that run from half back and rebounded well for us, along with Tommy Jonas, Stew (Paul Stewart) and Broadbent. It will be hard for Hombschy to find a spot in the team at the moment, when he is back from injury."
"Paddy was fantastic in the ruck and around the ground. For a ruckman to come up against Jacobs and Lowden by himself was fantastic, not taking anything away from those two, who played well. He had 7 inside 50s and 3 rebounds, which is fantastic."
"At the moment, I think Lobbe is very unlucky to be playing in the SANFL, he is a really good ruckman, we may bring him in this week, again depends on structure."

CLASSY DONS TOO GOOD FOR POWER!

Essendon has won its 7th game for the year after defeating Port Adelaide by 38 points in front of 37,561 at the Adelaide Oval.
Essendon skipper Jobe Watson collected 28 touches and 8 tackles, while veteran Paul Chapman also got 28 touches.
Key forwards Joe Daniher and Shaun McKernan kicked 6 goals between them.
Ruck duo Tom Bellchambers and Jon Giles were too strong for Port's Patrick Ryder getting +21 in the hitouts, but Port had +7 in the clearances.
Port backmen Jackson Trengove, Matthew Broadbent, Tom Jonas and Alipate Carlile all collected 20+ touches, with Trengove getting 29 to be the leading possession getter in the game. Key forward Jay Schulz kicked 3.2 from 6 possessions.
Port Adelaide suffered a blow late in the first quarter with defender Paul Stewart subbed off with a serious knee injury. He will have scans on Monday.

Here are some of Ken Hinkley's comments after the game
"We didnt have enough contributors on the day. You know you've had a bad game when 4 of your 5 leading ball winners were defenders and the highest for a midfielder was 18 (Jared Polec). Robbie, Brad and Trav all had disappointing game getting the 35 touches between them."
"Paddy Ryder tried his best today, he was fantastic around the ground with 25 touches and 13 marks. I reckon Lobbe will be a big chance to come into the side this week to help him out, considering the strength on North's ruck."
"A few youngsters will be rested this week, so expect a few changes against North Melbourne"

Paul Stewart out for 12!

Port Adelaide defender Paul Stewart has injured his PCL in his left knee and will miss 12 weeks.
It is a big blow for the Power who will miss his experience and versatility.

ROUND 8 vs NORTH MELBOURNE KANGAROOS!

Port Adelaide will have one forced change with Paul Stewart coming out of the side due to injury.
Youngsters Ollie Wines, Mason Shaw and Andrew Moore will all be rested for this game.
Matthew Lobbe will regain his spot in the side to try and take advantage of the absence of Todd Goldstein and back up ruck Ben Brown.
Hamish Hartlett, Justin Westhoff and Tom Clurey will also come into the side, with Clurey making his debut.

Lets have a look at the teams!

NORTH MELBOURNE TOO GOOD IN WET CONDITIONS!

North Melbourne has recorded its 5th win of the season and moves into 4th position after a 15 point win over Port Adelaide.
Tough nut Sam Gibson finished with 36 touches (11 kicks, 25 handballs), 9 contested and 6 spoils, while Scott McMahon had 31 touches. Jarrad Waite, Drew Petrie and Shaun Higgins kicked 7.5 between them. First gamer Sam Durdin had the tough job of supporting Dan Currie in the ruck against Paddy Ryder and Matthew Lobbe and did a fantastic job collecting 10 touches, 5 hitouts and kicking his first league goal.
Meanwhile for Port Adelaide, half back Jasper Pittard collected 24 touches and 7 spoils, while Matt White, Brad Ebert, Travis Boak, Jackson Trengove and young forward Mitch Harvey all had over 20 touches. Justin Westhoff kicked 3.1 and Jay Schulz and Kane Mitchell kicked 2 each. Angus Monfries could have kicked a big bag but was inaccurate, kicking 1.4. Ruck duo Matthew Lobbe and Patrick Ryder, playing with each other for the 3rd time ever, collected 17 touches, 4 marks, 33 hitouts and 1 goal between them, with Lobbe subbed out at 3 quarter time.

Here are some of Port coach Ken Hinkley's comments after the game
"We were disappointing in the first quarter, no doubt. To have 6 goals kicked on you in the first 20 minutes of the game is very unprofessional and not like this group of players at all. We had spurts of brilliance and continuity but again couldnt put a 4 quarter performance together."
"Mitch Harvey was impressive in his 3rd game getting 20 touches, playing as a high half forward/4th tall. Depending on structure, he should keep his spot."
"I thought Boaky played his best game for the year today. He has had a quiet start to the season, but his presence around the ball almost lifted our guys to the win."
"Lobbe and Ryder will play together next week, as we have to face Fremantle and Aaron Sandilands next week. Hopefully, they are building the chemistry required to play with each other."
"Hamish (Hartlett) will be better for the run this week, he, most likely, won't start as the sub next week."

SHARP SHOOTING FREO TOO STRAIGHT FOR THE POWER!

Fremantle has won its 5th game of the season against Port Adelaide, 19.2.116 to 11.11.77, in front of 35,993 at the Adelaide Oval.
It was a wonderful day for the Fremantle forwards, who couldn't miss. Captain Matthew Pavlich and serial pest Hayden Ballantyne kicked 5 goals each, while Pavlich also got 27 touches. Recruit Colin Sylvia collected 31 touches playing on the wing and defender Luke McPharlin kept Justin Westhoff goalless.
For the Power, Matt Broadbent got 30 touches, Brad Ebert and Jasper Pittard collected 25 touches each, with Pittard spoiling the ball 13 times. Power ruck duo Patrick Ryder and Matthew Lobbe dominated in the middle, collecting 43 hitouts to 29, and helping Port Adelaide get a +24 in the clearances. It clearly wasn't enough as Fremantle couldn't miss. Small forward Angus Monfries kicked 4.4.

Here is some of what Ken Hinkley had to say after the game.
"Clearly Fremantle were the better team on the day, they took their chances and didn't let us get into the game. We had one more score than them and still lost by 39 points. Obviously, that tells us that we need to improve our goal kicking throughout the week, if we want to have any chance of beating Carlton and getting off the bottom of the ladder."
"Lobbe and Ryder played brilliantly today. To come up against Sandilands is no easy task and they played out of their skins. The chemistry that is forming between those two is getting better and we hope they will become the best ruck duo in the comp."
"Schulzy, Gus and Justin played well but need to work on their accuracy, especially Gus. To have 8 scoring shots and kick 4.4 is good, but to kick 6 or 7 goals would be even better."
"Unfortunately, Cornesy spained his ankle today and won't be available for the next 2-3 weeks. We do have depth though, as Kane Mitchell and Jared Polec took their omissions well in the SANFL. I think they got 26 touches and 20 touches and each kicked a goal from what I heard, so depth isn't a problem."

Round 10 sees the bottom two teams battle it out on Saturday Night.
Port Adelaide will have two forced changes with Kane Cornes injured and Ollie Wines suspended.
Kane Mitchell and Jared Polec will come into the side for those two.

Lets have a look at the teams!

Port Adelaide:
B:
Matthew Broadbent - Alipate Carlile - Jack Hombsch
HB: Jasper Pittard - Jackson Trengove - Tom Jonas
C: Hamish Hartlett - Robbie Gray - Brad Ebert
HF: Angus Monfries - Justin Westhoff - Andrew Moore

Midfielder a late withdrawal!

Hamish Hartlett is a late withdrawal from the Port Adelaide side.
Mason Shaw will be his replacement.

CARLTON A CLASS ABOVE PORT ADELAIDE!

Carlton has defeated Port Adelaide by 50 points, in front of 45,421 at the MCG.
These were the bottom two teams, so we expected a close game. This result just confirmed the gap between the okay sides with the bad sides.
Matthew Kreuzer was best on ground with 21 touches, 5 marks, 16 hitouts and 2 goals, while midfielders Andrew Carrazzo, Chris Judd and Kade Simpson had 28, 26 and 24 touches respectively. Tall forwards Lachie Henderson and Liam Jones kickes 5.2 between them.
For Port Adelaide, midfielder Brad Ebert was the best player for them collecting 29 touches 9 marks and 8 tackles. Angus Monfries kicked 3.3 to be the leading goal kicker on the ground. It was an even ruck battle between Carlton's Matthew Kreuzer and Robbie Warnock and Port's Patrick Ryder and Matthew Lobbe. Carlton's midfield was better on the day winning the clearances 29-12.

Here is some of what Power coach Ken Hinkley had to say about the game.
"Clearly, after that performance, we are the lowest side in the competition. No way should we have lost by 50 points, we were hoping we would win this game and move off the bottom of the ladder, but now we are a game behind."
"Gus Monfries again was brilliant for us in the forward line, being the beneficiary of many contests that were brought to ground. Brad Ebert was exceptional, stepping up in Cornesy absence."
"We didn't put enough effort in. We, again, failed to play a consistent 4 quarters as shown at the half time score."
"Hamish will be out for a couple of week with a quad injury, he may need a little more time to get it right. Unfortunately, Justin also injured himself late in the game. I think it is an ankle injury, but we will be sure on Monday when he has scans."

HAWTHORN MAKE LIGHT WORK OF PORT ADELAIDE!

Hawthorn has won its 9th game of the season, defeating Port Adelaide 20.6.126 to 10.7.67, in front of 35,942 at the Adelaide Oval.
Midfielder Sam Mitchell was voted best on ground, collecting 23 touches (10 contested), 6 tackles, 1 goal and 11 inside 50s to set up most of Hawthorn's attacking plays. Grant Birchall collected 30 touches from half back, while forwards Jarryd Roughead and Cyril Rioli collected 21 touches each and kicked 5 goals and 4 goals respectively.
It was a dirty day for the Power with only 3 players getting over 20 touches and Jay Schulz kicking half their score. Debutant Brendan Ah Chee was a highlight after coming on as the sub at 3 quarter time, collecting 6 touches and kicking 2 goals. Key midfielders Travis Boak, Robbie Gray and Ollie Wines again had dirty days, collecting the 36 touches between them. Hawthorn romped away to a 6 goal lead at quarter time and extended that lead to 10 goals at half time. The Power brought it back a little, but still trailed by 13 goals at 3 quarter time. They kept Hawthorn to just the 8 points in the last quarter to lose by 59 points.

Here are some of Ken Hinkley's comments after the game.
"I thought our leaders were really disappointing today. When the chips are down, you expect those top line players, like Boaky and Robbie, to step up and bring the game back within our reach, but failed to do so as they have so many times this year."
"Matty Lobbe and Pat Ryder were impressive again today, with Lobbe mainly playing ruck as we played Ryder as the extra man back, to try and open our forward a little bit. As a result, Schulzy was able to kick a bag today."
"We were outworked again today. They just wanted it more. Hopefully, we can turn this form around and get some more wins on the board."
"We have Richmond next week, so I think there might be a couple of changes to the side. We will have to wait and see."

I'm loving your work and the layout you are using for this story. Hard to believe the Power are playing this poorly for you only winning the 1 game which incidentally came against the Crows haha.
But good work, keep it up

It gets much worse trust me. Just look at the 3QT score against Richmond!

PORT ADELAIDE CAN'T GO ANY LOWER AGAINST DOMINANT RICHMOND!

Richmond has defeated a lowly Port Adelaide side by 66 points, in front of 38,326 at Etihad Stadium.
Richmond were in control all match having kept the Power to a paltry 9 points at 3 quarter time. The defeat could have been much worse for the Power side, who were able to kick 5 goals in the last term.
Richmond midfielder Anthony Miles led all comers with 34 touches, while Sam Lloyd collected 27 touches and kicked 4.4. Brett Deledio, Nick Vlastuin, Shaun Grigg and Ricky Petterd all collected 20+ touches, with Grigg also kicking 4 goals. Richmond totally out classed Port Adelaide around the stoppages and the ruck, winning the hitouts 37-16, which led to a 26-9 in clearances and a +21 in the inside 50 stat. Port Adelaide were lazy as well, giving away a whopping 34 free kicks.
In a couple of highlights for the Power, debutant Karl Amon collected 26 touches and 10 spoils, while second gamer Brendon Ah Chee got 22 touches and 10 inside 50s. Sub Andrew Moore was the leading goal kicker with 2 goals.

Here are some of Ken Hinkley's comments about the game.
"That was just about the worst game I have seen our boys play this year. I know we have had some big losses this year, but to kick just the 1 goal to 3 quarter time is appalling. We were slack around the ball giving away too many free kicks. We need to work on our discipline."
"I thought Karl Amon was our best player today, you don't normally say those things about first gamers, but considering our performance today, he is one of very few who can hold their head up high. Brendon was also very impressive playing on half forward, sadly he didn't trouble the scorers, but did set up lots of our forward thrusts."
"Expect a few changes next week, as we had Cornesy, Hamish and Justin all play in the SANFL this week. I have also heard that Sammy Colquhoun was impressive and may get a game."

GEELONG TOO GOOD FOR PORT ADELAIDE!

Geelong has recorded its 4th win of the season over the struggling Port Adelaide, winning 15.16.106 to 11.6.72.
Steve Johnson was voted best on ground with 22 touches, 7 marks and 5 goals. Jackson Thurlow was leading possession getter for Geelong with 24. Big key forward Tom Hawkins kicked a bag of 5 to take his tally to 39 for the season. Port Adelaide were the better team around the ball but weren't able to translate it onto the scoreboard, winning 36-19 in the hitouts, 37-7 in the clearances and 50-46 in the tackles. Ruck recruit Patrick Ryder was best player for the Power, winning 21 touches, 2 marks, 17 hitouts, 6 tackles and kicking 4 goals to show why the Power got him in the first place. Midfielder Brad Ebert finished with 29 touches, most for the game, while Alipate Carlile, who had the tough job on Tom Hawkins, collected 26 touches and 11 spoils.

Here are some of Ken Hinkley's comments after the game.
"Clearly, we were disappointing today. To win the clearances, tackles and hitouts by reasonable margins and lose by 34 points, shows how poorly we played and how well Geelong were able to captialize on the chances they were given."
"Look, Brad has been our best player all season, he has given his all 99% of the times and should be rewarded with some wins, but unfortunately, the other 21 blokes on the field aren't willing to give that effort."
"Paddy was impressive wasn't he? For a ruckman to get 21 touches and lay 6 tackles, just shows how committed he was to the contest, and he also kicked 4 goals, so they are the kind of performances we are coming to expect from Paddy each week."
"We needed our big blokes up forward to create the contests, which they didn't unfortunately, because we have some good crumbing forwards in there like Gus, Ah Chee and even the resting midfielder in Boaky, Wines or Cornesy are able to kick a few goals. We definitely expect more from those guys."

GOLD COAST SHOW TOO MUCH CLASS FOR PORT ADELAIDE!

Gold Coast have won their 7th game of the year, to move into the top 8, against Port Adelaide in front of 23,750 at Metricon Stadium.
In what was a disappointing game for Port Adelaide, they conceded 8 goals in the first quarter to lose by 47 points.
Suns forward Sam Day kicked 5 goals in a dominant display, despite the wet conditions. Half forward Aaron Hall and experienced head Andrew Raines collected 31 touches each, while new recruit Nick Malceski and skipper Gary Ablett finished with 28 touches. Ruckman Tom Nicholls, Aaron Hall and Brandon Matera kicked 3 goals each. For Port Adelaide, ruckman Patrick Ryder and forward Angus Monfries were the best players for the team, with Ryder carrying the ruck load for the second half after Matthew Lobbe was substituted and Angus Monfries did his bit, kicking 5.5.
Midfielder Brad Ebert was again influential with 22 touches and 7 inside 50s. Not many postitives to take out of the match for Port Adelaide, otherwise.

Here are some of Ken Hinkley's comments after the game.
"I thought that Gold Coast absolutely out played us today. They played a 4 quarter performance with each player playing their role. Whereas on our part, not everyone played their role the best they could and it shows. We lacked the intensity for most of the game and lacked effort. We have St Kilda next week, then the Bye and I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of sole searching during that break."
"We lacked the run and couldn't deliver the ball to our forwards the way we would expect and that has happened all year. We haven't been able to adapt to the conditions well enough."
"Gusy again was magnificent for us up forward. That performance is what we expect from most of our smalls in the conditions we had today. He is one of not many who can hold their head up high."
"Again, Paddy was fantastic for us, no doubt that he has been training hard all year and that is being projected out in the games."
