PORT ADELAIDE TURN SEASON AROUND BY WINNING 4TH IN A ROW AGAINST LIONS!

Port Adelaide has won its 4th in a row after only winning 1 game in 18 rounds! Port Adelaide piled on 4.4 to 0.5 in the last quarter to win by 34 points.
Kane Cornes was Port Adelaide leading possession getter with 22 touches and 11 marks, with only 3 players not getting more than 10 touches. Young forward Brendon Ah Chee looks a star in the making after booting another bag of 6 goals, while ruckman Matthew Lobbe kicked 2 first half goals and Angus Monfries kicked 2 goals in the last quarter to mark his return to the senior side. Brad Ebert returned strongly after a broken jaw to finished with 20 touches.
For Brisbane, Jed Adcock and Justin Clarke finished with 25 touches each, Dayne Zorko had 23 touches, Lewis Taylor 21, Daniel Rich and Pearce Hanley 20. Stef Martin and Allen Christensen were the only two multiple goal kickers for Brisbane with 2 each. Ken Hinkley's new style of short kicks and slowing down play seems to be working now after winning the past 4 games.

Here are some of Ken Hinkley's comments after the game.
"I thought our boys have finally adjusted to the new game plan that was set at the start of preseason. This year was meant for development and we have seen many of the boys start to develop and get used to the duties of being an AFL footballer, not only on field but off field as well. Brendon Ah Chee is a fine example of this, at the start of the year, he didn't even look like getting a game, but he trained hard on the track and started performing in the twos and got his opportunity in the middle of the season and has delivered with 27 goals in 11 games, which is one behind Jay Schulz in the club goal kicking."
"I thought we were good around the ground and very clean with the ball in the wet and rainy conditions, to take 115 marks on a wet day is absolutely fantastic and we also laid 46 tackles, which may have been a little below what we expected, but it showed us that our boys were hard at the contest and applied the level of pressure, that we expect, on the Brisbane players when they had possession. It was very pleasing."
"We have one more game this year as we finish the year a little bit earlier than expected with the BYE in round 24, so our boys will start preparing for the Showdown next week and hopefully, we can finish the year off on a high with 5 wins in the last 5 games."

ADELAIDE WIN THRILLER ON SIREN TO WIN SHOWDOWN!

Rory Sloane has proved to be the hero when kicked a goal to put Adelaide up by 1 point with 3 seconds to play. Adelaide won the Showdown 10.10.70 to Port Adelaide 9.15.69.
Patrick Dangerfield won the Showdown medal after collecting 29 touches, 5 clearances and 10 contested possessions over fellow midfielder Scott Thompson, defenders Andy Otten and Daniel Talia and Port Adelaide midfielder Brad Ebert. Scott Thompson finished with 39 touches (38 uncontested) and 11 inside 50s. Andy Otten and Daniel Talia kept forwards Justin Westhoff and Mason Shaw to 3 goals from 15 possessions. Young ruckmen Luke Lowden and Harry Dear won the ruck battle against the more experienced Matthew Lobbe and Patrick Ryder 26-23, but Port won the clearances 20-13. Captain Taylor Walker, Josh Jenkins and Brodie Smith kicked 2 goals each in the win.
For Port Adelaide, midfielder Brad Ebert was their best player, finished with 39 touches, 29 marks and 10 inside 50s. Young defenders Jasper Pittard and Tom Jonas finished with 29 and 22 touches, to be the only players for Port Adelaide to win over 20 touches. Star midfielders Travis Boak and Robbie Gray finished with 15 touches between them as Adelaide were able to curb their influence on the game and in the frantic final minutes of the game.
Forwards Brendon Ah Chee and Justin Westhoff kicked 3 goals each, with the others coming from Patrick Ryder 2 and Chad Wingard 1.

Here are some of Ken Hinkley's comments after the game.
"I thought that it was a really tough, uncompromising game today. It was a classic, which sadly we weren't able to hold on at the end. This season started out poorly but when the boys were finally got going, they were able to play some really good footy. We will study the positives and negatives of this season over the pre season and work on them to make ourselves less vulnerable in the areas that need work."
"Brad Ebert, Brendon Ah Chee, Jack Hombsch, Patrick Ryder, Tom Jonas, Matthew Broadbent, Angus Monfries and Jay Schulz all had outstanding seasons and we expect the same kind of performances next year, hopefully a couple of those blokes can take their games to the next level."
"We will go through our list in the coming weeks and decide who we keep and who will go. Hopefully, we can get a couple of big recruits in the trade period to strength the areas on the ground that need strengthening."

TRADE PERIOD 2015!

The trade period is upon us and Port Adelaide are looking to recruit an experienced key defender and a big name midfielder.

The first trades have been done for Port Adelaide at 12pm on Day 1.
The following trades have been made:

Dougal Howard for Nathan Jones
John Butcher for Pick 18

Here are the coaches comments on the trades:
"Pick 18 for John Butcher - I think pick 18 is adequate for John, we thought that since he didn't really make an impact on the club and with Mitch Harvey and Mason Shaw developing quicker than John, we felt that it would be a good idea to trade him to a club in need of a key forward. John was delighted to hear he had been traded to the Bulldogs, as he will get more opportunities there, but also sad to leave the Port Adelaide Football Club."
"Nathan Jones for Dougal Howard - I think this is a very good trade on both accounts, Melbourne gain the key forward they need and we get another top line midfielder. Certainly, Jones wasn't the one we had in mind, but we are very happy to see him come to the club."

TRADE PERIOD 2015!

Port Adelaide have completed two more trades:

Jarrad Redden for Sam Gilbert
Andrew Moore for Lynden Dunn

Here are the coaches comments on the trades:
Jarrad Redden for Sam Gilbert - "This is an excellent trade for both clubs. St Kilda get another ruckman to strengthen their ruck division and we get a quality player in Sam Gilbert. Jarrad and the club felt that he wasn't getting enough opportunities here, with Ryder and Lobbe in front of them and we have Billy developing and learning from them both, so the best option was to trade him. We get a 2 time grand final player, who, at his best, can rip teams apart off half back or half forward."
Andrew Moore for Lynden Dunn - "This is another trade that benefits both clubs. Melbourne get the outside run of Andrew and we get the key defender we were looking for at the end of the season to support Trengove, Carlile and Hombsch. Not much else to say otherwise."

TRADE PERIOD 2015!

Port Adelaide have completed 2 more trades:

Tom Clurey for Lachie Neale
Pick 22 for Adam Oxley and Pick 41

Here are the coaches comments on the trades:
Tom Clurey for Lachie Neale - "We are sad to see Tom go, but it is for more opportunities for him in the near future. Tom is a classy tall defender who can play tall or small and will be a great asset for the Fremantle Football Club. In return, we get a young midfielder in Lachie Neale. We feel that Lachie will provide us with some more depth and since he is only 20, has time to develop and become adjust to life as a Port Adelaide player."
Pick 22 for Adam Oxley and Pick 41 - "I feel that since we have pick 3 and pick 18, we wouldn't utilize another first round pick to the best of our ability and because we have a young list, we wanted to not overload ourselves with talented youngsters, who wouldn't get a game with us. Adam is a talented youngster who will bolster our backline and will have time to develop and learn from our more experienced defenders in Gilbert, Carlile, Stewart and even Ryder. We also got another later pick in the draft."

NATIONAL DRAFT!

PICK 3 - Max Page 187cm 90kg Midfielder
Max Page was the best option and the best midfielder in the draft and we couldn't overlook him. He scored 15 in the beep test, 2.92 seconds for the 20m sprint and reaction time was 0.25 seconds. Hopefully, Max will be able to develop into a top class midfielder in the coming years and has the best mentors in Boaky, Brad, Cornesy and Rob. Max is also 19 years old, so has an extra year of development in him already, than most of the other draftees.

PICK 18 - Erick Weston 192cm 95kg Tall Defender
Erick Weston is a tall defender that we hope will become one of the leagues best in years to come. He is strong enough to hold his one against some of the bigger opponents and is an elite spoiler. He hasn't got the best leap, but we are hoping he will work that and many other areas of his game to become good enough to take on opponents like Jack Riewoldt and Taylor Walker.

PICK 39 - Diego Mayger 182cm 92 kg Midfielder
Diego is a ready built midfielder, he has the ability to play anywhere from the midfield, forward and defence. Diego is another of the 19 year olds who entered the draft and we felt that he was the best player available at pick 39. Diego possesses an elite endurance, shown by the 14.3 he scored on the beep test at draft camp. He also possesses very good acceleration and we hope he can complement the inside midfielders with his run and carry in years to come.
