What do you do with Shane Watson?

You could argue dropping the young all rounder who just got a 5 fa is experimental
Not if the consensus is that he isn't actually in the best team.

The point is that Watson was deemed to be in the best side at the start of the tournament. Marsh was not.

Reversing that position during the tournament may not appeal.

But when the facts change, you have to change your mind.
What facts have changed since last week?

Watson is still out of form but still has an excellent ODI record overall. That might be enough to keep him in the side, Marsh's haul notwithstanding.

I'm not saying I agree with that but if I had to bet, I reckon Watson will survive, purely out of a desire to not make too many changes.

I dislike Watson as much as the next bf poster, but the campaigner did get a jaffa from that Broad *******

Nicking a living.

CA reluctance to drop him because he probably won't be recalled to either ODI or test squad. Will probably put pressure on him in the next 12 months to retire if he isn't dropped after Ashes (or by then).

He'll do well in BBL and IPL and CPL

Surely this is his ODI swansong. He'll be 34 by the time the next ODI fixtures come along and there are now three other younger all-rounders in Maxwell, Marsh and Faulkner, all worth their spot.

Conceivably, we could start building a side for the 2019 World Cup around those guys batting 5-7. They're all young enough to be there in four years.

Before we start building for the 2019 World Cup, I reckon we should concentrate on the 2015 World Cup, just a thought.

It's even worse when you look at his performances in 2014

People shouldn't expect more than 35-50 runs being scored by watson because that is him playing to his potential. He isn't a better batsmen than that because he doesn't have a consistently solid defence and temprament as other batsmen who score 100s or even 80+. His scores are a reflective of his ability.

$4.5m is a disgrace, considering his performances. I think he should stay in the ODI team for during the group stages, and then if his form doesn't lift, he should be dropped. Think he should be forced to earn his test spot again through the Sheffield Shield

Part of the 15 man squad, unless Aus don't make the final, he can't play Shield cricket.

That would explain this then.

I think he averages 25, 23 and 15 respectively with the bat and 66, over 100 and actually a decent amount with the ball for his 2.3 million
I think I'm going to head up to CA headquarters ask them to give me a mil.:D

I knick to the slips, play around my front pad, still think I'm not out and rarely make a decent score too!;)
