I've been thinking about if there is anything I own that I would never give up for any price and thought it would be interesting to hear about others too.

Personally the thing I would be most reluctant to sell or give away would probably be my guitar that my dad bought for me about 6 years ago now. While it's nothing jaw-dropping at $4000, I realise how much it meant for my dad to spend that amount on something like that. I play it pretty much every day (not seriously or anything, I just enjoy having a muck around with it) and I can't see myself selling it in my lifetime.

What item will you keep forever? Is it worth a lot or is it symbolic of something that has happened in your life?

Soon to be my 1974 HQ Premiere that belonged to my great grandfather - Sentimental and also awesome

Collectable Gil Hibben knives that my partner brought me - Limited edition, sentimental

My Les Paul - Just my perfect guitar, I'd love to have a collection, but this one is the only one I need

Any of my Port guernseys that are out of production, as hideous as some were - Love Port, these are all part of the journey

Would gotta be my Rickenbacker bass

Got it at a Pawn Shop on Barkly St Kilda for $399 (guy had never heard of "Rickenbacker" :D)

Had some work done on it at Mannys on Chapel St back in the late 90's and the guy told me it dated to 1963 and promptly offered me $8000 oon the spot for it (which I refused)

My guitar collection that I've been working on for years. I have a Electric Red vintage modified Fender Jaguar bass, a Cole Clark Angel 3 engraved by my fiancé which was an engagement present, a blonde Fender Telecaster, a Gretsch White Falcon 6136, a cherry Gibson 335 Dot, and a Sunburst Epiphone Casino. I also have a tweed Fender Blues Deluxe amp which sounds like sex.

Are you any good?

I always thought it was cool when you went to see a good band and they never change instruments, they just keep playing the same single guitar

I have an Yamaha accoustic somewhere I got when I was about 16. If I gave that to one of my muso mates they'd make it sing. If they gave me a Les Paul I'd still sound like a chump with two right hands.

I just find it curious the things that people collect. If I had a guitar owned by Paul McCartney or something that would be awesome, but if I had a whole collection of guitars I didn't use I'd see it as a waste.

Why

Im complete opposite - the sound of a hollow bodied Gretsch v a solid body Strat is completely different. Ever seen a band who's songs all sound the same? More variety the better I personally reckon

Mind you, many guitarist's signature sound are largely made by their guitar. Think of SRV's and Hendrix's strats, the hollow bodies used by The Living End and The Black Keys, BB King's semi-hollow Lucille...

Sweet. Do you use all of your gear or is it ornamental/sentimental?

Got them all with the intention of using them live, with influences in mind but. Bought the Gretsch when my band had no bass player to fill the space. It has a stupidly filthy sound especially when combined with a tubescreamer pedal. The Tele is pretty much a standard for any muso - but I got mine in the blonde colour cos I love the Rolling Stones and its Keef's signature guitar. But the version I have isn't high end. Only cost me about a grand. A The 335 is pretty much made for slow blues licks, and is so sexy. The Casino gives that awesome 60's vintage Brit-pop/rock n roll sound which is kind of the style of my band so I use that more than anything. I have the same type of Casino used by John Lennon. They are relatively cheap guitars too but sounds amazing.

I must be different to most in this thread. Either all of my possessions are s**t or I just value things differently.:D

I have a photo of the dog I got when I was 9 from when she was a pup (taken 1993 - no negatives or copies, she's obviously long gone now) and her collar. I value that more highly than my DSLR camera or 60inch flat screen or car etc. I have a few bits and pieces I'd be sad to lose. A stein pinched from the 200th Oktoberfest in Munich, my passport which needs to be renewed in 2017, things like that. Pretty much everything I have of saleable value I would be annoyed to lose but could just replace. Burgulars GTFO if you think you're getting my Nintendo 64 though.
