First genuine use for the internet I can remember was for music tabs. In high school, playing in a band, and every song you wanted to cover was there, free to download at 28k. Amazing.

Social media, ICQ, Used to stay up all night in year 11 and 12 doing cats and talking s**t. Then everyone started "nuking" each other, launching attacks on each other's computers. Was piss funny watching someone's icon turn red as you booted them off the internet. Was devastating when it happened to yourself halfway through an English essay though. ...good times.

Member those search engines, alta vista, yahoo. And Netscape. Hotmail blew everything out of the water.
