13.1.1 - If both team scores are still even once the additional time has been exceeded, the two team captains each roll a die resulting in both captains receiving a number ranging from 1 to 6. The number the captain receives gives them a 'wildcard' player who holds their number on a card. The wildcard players are selected from the top six players in the Coleman Medal tally. Once both teams have their wildcard player, they each receive 3 attempts at kicking a jacket potato into the back of North Melbourne player Lindsay Thomas. The team whose wildcard player can launch Thomas the furthest distance from any of their three attempts wins the game.
Any solution that is not definitive ..ie more time, replays etc... is inviting more complications ...keep it simple stupid and embrace the magic of the moment ....next score wins. DONE.....What's next?....Electrifying seconds with super high stakes are the greatest moments of all...that's one reason why we try to stretch it out....more time =better ....but the greatest moment is lost and particularly when the whole nation is committed to that timeslot and deserves the ultimate result..
People have lives to live...travel inconvenience ....money greed should have no say. And a point can be magic re Saints 1966
When scores are level at Full-Time, you play 5 minutes plus time-one each way.
If they're still level, it's another 5 minutes each way.
Failing that, the captains toss, the winner picks an end and you play golden score.
After extra time if it is still level, just give the game to the higher ranked team in the H&A, otherwise the chances of both teams may be blown for the following week. I realise that would suit my team this year, but happy to stand by that opinion in the future...
