Not quite AFL but nearly as good. Potential test rookie Glenn Maxwell was a top player in the Belgrave South Unders during the mid naughties (before they went to the Dark Side) and also did a stint with the YVMD Umpires.

If he makes it, everyone this side of Adelaide will be claiming him.
Like Bryce McGain.
But I think he has a huge fan base watching him on this side of the city!

Bert Brunning who played a handful of games with Richmond in the 1920's came from Powelltown via Mitcham, Box Hill and St.Kilda Seconds.

Another who played about a century ago was Len Phillips of Healesville. Played with Healesville 1904-1911, then joined the VFA and played with Melbourne City, Footscray and Brighton, VFL club St.Kilda 1914 (5 games 6 goals), Coached West Perth 1915, Essendon 1918 (4 games 0 goals) before returning to Healesville and playing in their 1920 premiership side. He still captained Healesville in 1935 by which stage he was in his late 40's. In 1936 he was President of the Yarra Valley Football Association. He was considered a legend out Healesville way before WWII but is probably totally forgotten these days.

Can you PM me with a contact and references?
We can follow it up.

BUMP!

Joel Garner (Wandin) added his name to the VFL/AFL YV names with his Port Adelaide debut a few seasons back.

Also, Leigh Adams (North Melbourne) played for Woori Yallock.

In the AFLW, Lauren Tesoriero (Coll, Rich) played for Mt Ev.
