Is there a betting market open on who will win the Foxtel Cup comp?

PS BTW, there's two things I'd like to know re the Foxtel Cup:

1) Why is the grand final of Foxtel Cup played as a curtain raiser to the Essendon-Brisbane game, and not as a stand-alone game? And also why at Etihad Stadium, not the MCG as the venue for the final?

2) Why is the most successful club in the history of the VFA/VFL, Port Melbourne not invited to take part in the Foxtel Cup?

1) Good question, although the fixture past the first round is subject to change.

2)didnt qualify, Port Melbourne were not in the top 3 last year in the VFL.

Looking forward to seeing how this goes. My main criticism though is you'd think there'd have been a more intelligent "seeding" for the first round.

Putting 2 WAFL v VFL clashes up front means 2 very good sides will be denied a second round appearance. I suspect though that for the sake of television they needed some strong fixtures to create interest. They probably also wanted to guarantee some Queensland/NSW/Canberra in the 2nd round to maintain interest allover the country.

I highly rate the Swans and Claremont sides of 2009 - but I do wonder if Swans will miss a couple of the stars - especially Andrew Krakour - and Claremont struggle when pressure is applied and things don't go there way - eg last round game they lost to East Perth and of course losing the Grand Final.

Don't know much about the VFL sides but expect them to all be suitably strong - will they be laden with AFL reserves or not?

Given you'd expect the top SANFL clubs to generally be the strongest clubs in the country it will be interesting to see how clubs near the bottom compare.

Claremont have had minimal changes since losing the grand final to Swans by 1 point. They've lost only Derickx who acquitted himself well tonight for Richmond so they could be the best bet from WA.

they surely have to be the fav's. absolutely dominated the league last year and have had far less changes to their team than the others, I know they have to travel for game 1 but honestly does anyone think Clarence will beat them?

Firstly if you did this, you would have to have suburban & country teams from more states, not just Victoria and the competition would take too long & would have quite a few blowouts.
Oh & by the way, Vermont didn't even make finals in 2010. Noble Park won the EFL Premiership.

The Suburban & Country leagues should run there own Premiers Cup.

We need to chat muesli...

love the idea of it

if there was two WA teams in the Foxtel Cup Grand Final which there could be, would they make both teams fly over to Melbourne for the Grand final or would they hold it at Subi? Because at the moment it says the GF is going to be played before the Essendon V Brisbane game

How would the top SA clubs like ie Central Districts, Glenelg & Norwood had performed in the Foxtel Cup if they were involved this year?

You would think they would reschedule, subject to the WAFL's agreement, to be a curtain-raiser to a game in Perth. Most games in WA are Fox exclusive on the east coast.
The games are, apart from Hobart where its not an option, curtain-raisers so that the camera crews, sound guys, etc are already at the ground; so they would still try to keep it a curtain-raiser.

Very competively -although Woodville-West Torrens had the 3rd invite, not Glenelg.
All 3 teams have had reasonably significant turnover in personnel (Norwood arguably the hardest hit, losing mature age players to the AFL), but will still be amongst the top 5 in the SANFL this year.

The SANFL sides competing this year (North, West & Port) will probably still be good contenders.

The WAFL got underway a few days ago and early form suggests all 3 foxtel cup representatives are doing just as well now as last season.

East Perth defeated Swannies in a close one - both sides looking in pretty good form. East Perth's star recruits in Josh Smith, Pettifer, Moss and Polak all played well.

Claremont were in devastating form crushing East Fremantle - albeit they had some AFL stars that might not be seen in coming weeks.

East Freo did have the likes of Kerr playing as well.

Claremont would easily be Western Australia's best chance.

A lot of their AFL players such as are unlikely to play AFL.

Not sure why so many people have voted for Swan Districts. Krakouer was the only reason they were better than Claremont last year.

The warning signs are there not just for Williamstown but the VFL as a whole after East Perth defeated 3-time VFL premiers North Ballarat out of the Foxtel Cup. If Williamstown lose to last year's WAFL premiers Swan Districts on Saturday, what does that say about the standard of the VFL in comparision to the WAFL?

Swan Districts have lost all 3 games this season in the WAFL.

In my opinion they are the weakest of the 3 WAFL teams in the cup, Williamstown stand a good chance of beating them.

To be fair, North ballarat would have been decimted by North melbourne who were decimated by injuries. In addition Nth ballarat carried their own injuries and finally, ballarat travelled to perth.

Last year, maybe. At least it would've been a highly competitive match.
Clarence's record at Bellerive (currently at 25 consecutive wins) has been second to none in the TSL and they've had a large number of ex-VFL and Tasmanian state players in their senior team, so much so that many have questioned how they've managed to fit them all in under the pathetic salary cap that's been in place in the TSL.
Having watched Clarence against Glenorchy at KGV in front of over 10,000 on Saturday night, I'd have to say they don't look anywhere near as strong this year, so Claremont should take the chocolates.
Having said all that, Claremont SHOULD win too, what's the salary cap difference between the WAFL and the crumbs that the TSL expected to work with? TSL is a miserable $70,000 per year including the coach.
In 1990 it was $200,000 in the TFL - therein lies the huge difference.

Loving the lack of love for the SANFL
Besides against each other, the largest losing margin by any of our representitives this year is 15 points, and an average of 12.8.

SA team to win it all.
Probably West Adelaide beating North Adelaide in the final.

SA clubs certainly have the best draw.

But it's hard to go past the 2 remaining VFL clubs given the huge number of AFL listed players they've got. Both would have comfortably beaten any SANFL side.
