Why did people think GC would automatically dominate the comp?

high draft picks guarantee nothing.

It was silly to say so at the time and still is. 5-10 years of domination. Haha what a joke

High draft picks yet to reach their prime as footballers guarantee nothing, yeah.

Let's see if we're singing the same tune when these same players are in their mid-to-late 20s.

Will they still be at the club?

Back in 2010 people were screaming that in 5-6 years Gold Coast and GWS would be dominating the AFL.

Why wouldn't they be?

Most footy fans are very impatient and have a very unrealistic view of the development/life cycle of a footballer.

They are playing first year players when players that have played seasons are in the NEAFL.

Eade is tanking.

We thought they would have a fit Ablett and O'Meara. But yes I think that really GC did not end up with anywhere near the amount of high draft picks that GWS ended up with. But still time will tell if they end up dominating in the future. I definitely think people jumped the gun on the timeline. Experience does count for a lot.

GC seem like a team built around 5 or 6 truly elite talents. Whereas GWS seem like a whole team of very good talent's that don't rely as much on any one player. But who knows - until these team mature a bit more its a bit early to judge. We are only 2 games in this year.
