this arguement needs to die. There's no substitute for his clearance work. and when he's in the team he'll be constantly rotating forward with 3-4 other mdis giving us a look in up there. look what happens when he's out of the side. Guys like Muzungu, Neale etc. are forced to play more time in the middle and AGAINST THE BETTER MIDFIELDER. While they are goo midfielders it can be a big jump from 4th mid to 2nd or first. It has the combined effect of losing our ability to win the clearances and robbing guys like Muz of the ability to get off the chain when they are resting forwards.

With all the outs we currently have people are suggesting our forward line for the North game be Neale, Pav, Crozier.
I am mostly wondering about Neale. Has been dangerous around forward 50 stoppages, but I see him more as a natural midfielder. Probably just has not fully the tank yet...

"Our midfield functions well enough without Fyfe".

Lol, no.
The midfield has historically done better without Fyfe than it has without Barlow.

Made the finals with Fyfe missing most of the year in 2012, while winning both games Fyfe missed with suspension last year.

Meanwhile the midfield seems completely bereft of direction without Barlow.

How have we gone traditionally with both missing?

Well, as far back as I can remember (two weeks), 0.5 winning ratio.

That said, I think a midfield with enough depth such that Fyfe can play as a forward is a reasonable thing to aim for. We saw Lyon attempt that strategy in the first quarter of the GF.

He's a potential Koutoufides or Hird style of player. Put him wherever it works.

Have you seen the way Fyfe attacks the ball when in midfield to try and get the clearances.
He is in beast mode and becoming our clearance specialist.
Then he has a bloody good outside game to go with it.

Yes he should spend more time resting forward instead of sitting on bench and should be given more of a license to ignore structures and push forward when we have the ball to become another dangerous option.

Its like Dangerfield, very good forward could play there permanently but why waste him there when he can get more involved in midfield.

Why do people always want to take a player who has become a star in 1 position then try and put him in another spot.
Weaken one area to slightly improve another doesn't solve the problem.
My roof is caving in on 1 corner, so maybe I should just take some rafters out of the good side to fix the bad one.

Just like Pav spending so long as a mid was a dumb idea and fixed nothing.
Fyfe spending majority of game forward fixes nothing.

Yes Fyfe can play forward and do well.
Heck he could also play in defence and do well.
You don't replace a star mid with an average one.

Just needs to be instructed to get forward more often and make himself dangerous.

This a problem with Freo, we don't have the right midfield players to improve, break even when Fyfe, Barlow are injured, or rotate forward. Guys like Crozier,
Shero, Neale, Sutcliffe are not physical, competitive beasts, they have skills, but unlike Fyfe, hit the gym hard and we have seen the results.
Barlow is the diamond in the rough, and in my opinion we should of rookied another type this year, or kept Schloithe on the list.
A lot of the guys above owe Fremantle big time, and some have played more games than expected, but unless they have the desire to go the extra mile,
and improve their game, we will never see these guys dominate, good players that is all.
Sylvia. Simpson are the most disappointing of the lot, and I think the club, player are at fault.
I haven't included Suban, Deboer, because we know what they bring to the table, MZ has improved every year, and I don't think he has finshed yet.

In answer to the original question, why not fyfe forward? Well we saw why on the weekend. Without Barlow we simply do not have the midfield depth at the moment to put him there.

Guys like neale, Sheridan, sutcliffe, suban... Just haven't gotten it quite right yet, and haven't been able to hold up the midfield in fyfe and barlows absence.

No point having fyfe up forward if we can't get the ball down there to him

IF (Morabito was fit and could play centre) THEN (Fyfe could spend a little more time down forward) ELSE (no).

I've been hoping for such a move and this is where Mick Barlow's influence is so key. if Balrow's healthy, he and Mundy can cover the clearances themselves and Fyfe can rest forward. Without Barlow, we need Fyfe in the middle.

Have you watched Mora play?
Built like a brick s***house but doesn't play with any aggression or throw himself through packs to try and get the ball out like Fyfe.
Mora would be better played forward than Fyfe.
Mora perfectly built for a power inside mid type role, but plays more like an outside winger/mid.

Can we set up a permaban for posters who suggest Fyfe or McPharlin should move up as permanent forwards. It would help raise the quality of posts on the board by removing stupid ;)

Fyfe resting forward sure, but his work in the middle is impossible for us to replace. We're better for Fyfe, Mundy & Barlow in the middle.

Mora's disposal let him down last game too. He's still got a way to go

Nobody's suggesting them as permanent forwards, but temporary replacements in a crisis period where most of our actual forwards are injured or suspended.

Can we set up a permaban for members who create strawmen and call for other board members to be banned? It would help raise the quality of posts by removing content-free flaming.
