Didn't get their 7K runners in the end, but 6,343 is still a bloody good turnout!

~1550 head to day 2. Paying 648.

I'm @ the Rio, very self-conscious cos I'm wearing one of the shirts that the Mexicans wear, you know, advertising hookers on the street with their flick cards. Johnny Chan just walked by and gave me a long dirty look LOL

Can anyone explain this to me? I have to say, I don't really understand either the shove or the call, but the call especially. BB was 24k, so the shove was around 10x pot.

In the last match of this round, Ben Sulsky has just defeated Phil Galfond after more than two and a half hours of grueling head-up play.
The final hand occurred when Sulsky responded to Galfond's limp with an overbet to 425,000, effectively putting Galfond all-in if he decided to call.
"This is close..." Galfond said, before ultimately saying "Yep, let's go."
Galfond tabled the

board, however, and Galfond was sent to the payout desk, while Sulsky will return shortly for his Elite Eight matchup against Randy Lew.

the shove is less than 18bb which puts these guys into their push/fold stages and its all about preflop ranges and strength I guess. this tourny is playing really short stacked though with the lammer system

K7 is a hand sauce would think is better than galfonds limping range and better than his allin calling range

Galfond must have thought QT is slightly ahead of sauce shoving range but as he said it was really close, probably assuming sauce has enough JT/T9 type connected hands in his range

Both of them can be right, just this time sauce had it I guess

Can someone explain the Lammer system?

is it like an add on?

You're stack is divided into 3 sets, you start with one and have the option to add the second or third set of chips to your stack whenever. You can do it right away or anytime else

most people choose to play the shortstack and only use there second set of chips when they bust the first etc

So while Hellmuth has 1.2million chips, he will only have around half of that in play

Saw a few pros this arvo. Man I'd do Xuan Liu in a heartbeat. Galfond is tiny, Hellmuth is huge. I've hardly played any poker cos I've had a non-poker mate with me till today. Shows I've seen: Coco Austin's Peepshow, Beatles LOVE, Criss Angel BELIEVE, Ray Romano stand-up, Tim Allen stand-up. Still might see Andrew Dice Clay stand-up and a couple more if I can. Also took bitch seat as my mate drove a Jaguar XKR-S, Ferrari 458 Italia and Lamborghini LP-560 Gallardo through the Red Rock Canyon, basically desert. Check it out and absolutely do it if you come to Vegas, www.worldclassdriving.com. Do 3 performance cars for $499 and 3 muscle cars for $299. Do it with 2 mates so you each have a car and share the experience. I'll do it next time.

Might play the 1k today, see how I go, or might just play cash. Want to get some WSOP merchandise for friends.

Quick Stove: Galfond needs over 42% equity for the call to be correct. I make out that he has 43% equity if Sauce's shove is top 30% (55+,A2s+,K5s+,Q7s+,J8s+,T8s+,98s,A5o+,K9o+,Q9o+,J9o+,T9o). Note that that's top 30% by PokerStove's slider, which presumably ranks hands based on multiway equity, not heads up. The narrowest range which includes K7o is 36%, over which QTo has 44% equity. I guess that's why they are the pros.

Strongly considering heading over for some reason

Sweating the events n all that has me in the mood to head over for some events. Atm its only probably 20/80 but I'm talking myself into it

Schedule would look something like this
Arrive 27th on June
THURS 27th: $2500 10game 6 handed - Originally didnt plan to come this early, but basically every event after this is a NLHE, so I'm tempted to get there early just for some mixed game action with smaller fields etc
SAT 29th: $1,500 NLHE - I'm not a massive fan of these lower buyin WSOP events just because the early structures are so poor, but it seems stupid to avoid them if there.
Sun 30th $600 NLHE Venetian Deepstack - Theres a 1k NLHE WSOP event but I think this is a good opportunity to play a different series in a tourny that'll probably have a better early structure though I havent checked yet
MON 1st JULY: $2500 NLHE - Standard event, better early structure
TUE 2nd: $5000 NLHE or $1100 VDE NLHE - Not 100% sold on this one, I think it'll come down to how I'm feeling/going and what I think the field will be like, but its in the budget. Has a really good structure. The VDE is another good option to get away from the chaos of the Rio plus it'll be easier on the budget and a softer field. Think this could come down to how the previous few tournaments went
WED 3rd: $1111 for One Drop - This will be a crazy event with unlimited re-entry, people will be going nuts. Its a tourny I want to be a part of, but the chaos could be overwhelming (I hear from lots of people the small stakes WSOP events are exhausting and frustrating). Theres a $1600 VDE PLO on the same day, so I could end up playing that.
THURS 4th $1111 for One Drop or $500 VDE NLHE - I think either way I'll end up playing the One Drop, so I guess I'll flip a coin on whether I play the PLO or NLHE at VDE
FRI 5th $1,500 NLHE - The last NLHE before the main event. I guess it'll depend on what I thought of the first 1.5k and how it played, but I imagine this will be one of the bigger softest considering its so close to the ME. The Venetian doesnt really offer anything on this day so I cant imagine I wont play it.
SAT 6TH $10,000 WSOP MAIN EVENT - No chance of going to Vegas for the WSOP and not playing this. The staggered start is really annoying so I'm not sure whether I'll have some time off and play 1C or get it out of the way and play 1A so if I bust I can get out of town, or have an earlier day 2 for the same reason. 1C is the best day and most famous day and usually the softest as well. We'll see how I feel

Notes: If I do well/bink something good I'll play the $10k PLO the day before the main. The Bellagio and Aria have a small stakes series running while I'm there, so if the Rio becomes too much or I want to spend time in my favourite casino then I might sub in a cheaper event for the luls

Biggest issues stopping me from going
The Tax. After reading Paul Birmans article on pap, it didnt seem so bad but its still an issue and getting back all funds doesnt seem easy after some research, although I've heard of people getting everything back from plus 500k scores. Need more investigating, would love to talk to someone with experience but not sure who

The time: I realllllyyyy take a long time to make decisions. Considering this decision to go needs to be made quickly could scare me into not going. Also havent arranged leave from work etc

Anyway we'll see, decision will be made by the end of the week

What have you found that conflicts with that article?

Just some reading around it was said that getting a full refund isnt possible, but you can get some back. Paul says in his article he got all of it back, so conflicting reports there.

I guess I'd like to just have an idea of how much people are claiming etc and what theyre getting back for it.

Still looking over it all and I think I would end up leaving on Sunday the 30th if I went

The trip will be a long one anyway, so I think flying out Thursday could really put the grind on me and the events I'd be trying to get arent massive ones. A bit bummed I'd miss the 10game though if it was a few days later I'd make it work

Plus have a friends house warming on the Saturday night

The VDE runs through the main event so that should help keep my away from the craps tables if I make day 2 and on the non playing days, plus a deep run into the main event would reallllyyy stretch the trip out

Cant work out where to stay. Rio seems obvious answer, the price is alright but how far is the walk from rooms to the playing area?

The Wynn have pretty cheap weekday rates so I could do the hotel swap half way maybe and spend the last few days in style. Plus being close to the Venetian is a bonus

Checked flights and they all appear to be good on any of the days I want to leave

Thinking of doing Gold Coast for the first half so I can be back and forth easily, then moving to the Wynn when the main event starts. That way if I'm out of the main event I'm close to the Venetian but if I'm still in the main its only a cab ride there and back again a couple of times

Probably 30/70 now that everything checks out, still need to get it past the boss

Small chance (like 3.5/96.5) that I might be keen as well... Haven't looked yet but but I'm free after next Friday

get around it

wouldnt worry about tax

paying tax means you are winning money !!!

yeah its one of those good problems to have. Always said I'll play the main event as an experience despite the tax hike so the whole trip will have that type of mantra, not so worried about my EV

First time I've seen those two words in the same sentence. ;)

haha yeah I know and even then its not that cheap. $151avg per night which is alright over a 5 night stay I think. The weekend rates jack up the avg price though so its a sunday-thursday stay

Basically solved all of the logistics of it, so now it comes down to whether I'll pull the trigger on it or not. I'll sit on it over the next couple of days and decide by the weekend I think but atm its probably a coin flip

No major developments

Looking over the schedule a few times, I think I'm more likely to leave on the 30th and miss the 10game and 1500nlhe. Would probably play the 1100 VDE instead of the WSOP 5k,

First WSOP event would be the 2.5k holdem, while the first event of the trip would be a $600 VDE the night I arrive

Probably 60/40 now lol the misses is really talking me into going (she wants to come up around the 6th and spend the second week while I hopefully run deep in the main event, otherwise just play some VDE events and grind craps
