Worst 250 game player

My comments were in relation to the relevance of your statement regarding the value of the medals.

Meh don`t bother replying, Hirdy is your hero l get it.

Did I put the ANZAC day Medal on some scale did I? I simply posted that James won 3 of them, You then told me that they're not important because football is not war.

FFS lol.

So winning a medal in a big game isn't a great feat because it's not as important as war.

I ******* hate context.
Because it's called the Anzac medal and apparently the winner encompasses the spirit of the soldiers. I get it, they fought so we can play footy and be free and it's great to honour them, but it goes too far.

Peter Bell? not a 250 or 200 but Byron Pickett wasn't that could IMO. he just played well on the big stage.

Can you go back to not commenting on s**t threads again?
Why? What's your problem? I'm not a mind reader, mate. If you've got an issue with something I posted then why not be a man about it instead of being a smart arse?

Thread needs more Nathan Burke

If they gave Anzac Medals to every player who was BOG vs Collingwood at the MCG, then Sam Mitchell and Luke Hodge would both have four of them. It's a joke the way people list these Anzac Medals among a player's honours and achievements. It's just another BOG for a home and away game.

Two of Hird's Anzac Medals were in games against shithouse Collingwood teams.
In 2000, Collingwood finished 15th (of 16) and won just 7 of their 22 games
In 2004, Collingwood finished 13th (of 16) and won just 8 of their 22 games

What a hero!

In the 20 years the Pies and Bombers have clashed on Anzac Day, both teams have finished in the top 8 on just 4 occasions. 3 of those 4 seasons, Essendon just barely scraped into the top 8. In 16 of 20 games, at least one of the teams was a bottom 8 side. Hardly a "clash of the titans".

2011
1st Coll 20-2, 167.7%
8th Ess 11-10-1, 100.0%

2009
4th Coll 15-7, 122.3%
8th Ess 10-11-1, 97.8%

2003
2nd Coll 15-7, 121.6%
8th Ess 13-9, 111.7%

2002
4th Coll 13-9, 109.7%
5th Ess 12-9-1, 105.0%

Anzac day is pure hype. I've been to quite a few and I'm often incredulous at how the media pump it up as a "great game". Most of the time, I come away from those games thinking how ordinary the standard of footy was. People think a big noisy crowd somehow elevates the on-field action. LOL.

When I think of Blakey I think "Never played a bad game". To have 350 like that is remarkable in itself (of course im sure he did)
Indeed. He was rarely beaten, and the ultimate professional, didn't drink, smoke or eat junk food, hence why he was called The Temple, due to the respect he had for his body.

Beat me to it. I'd probably go a top 3 of ...

Justin Peckett
Steven Febey
Brent Guerra

With John Blakey the worst to play over 300 games.

I didn't like Guerra, particularly early in his career, but he was a very effective player. Paul Broderick is the one that jumped off that list at me.

Jeez there are some absolutely atrocious calls in this thread, and Burke and Montagna would have to be right up there.

Peckett I will cop although he's probably more in the 'worst 250 game player the average bigfooty member can remember playing'. I mean looking at that list, just for example, who is Bernard Toohey?

A quick glance at his afl tables page: 263 games spread across 3 clubs, never averaged more than ~15 touches, career best of 6 brownlow votes in a season an outlier, seems to be exactly the type of run of the mill player with longevity Peckett was but just less fresh in the mind. Toohey's just an example, there's a bunch of blokes on that list most here wouldn't have seen play.

A hard as nails half back flanker and FIGJAM.

I'm pretty sure those in bold never won a club B&F, were All Australians, and for those who played most of their footy before 1991 didnt play state footy. But I am happy to be corrected.

Justin Peckett would give this "honour" a shake

JFC White was considered arguably the best ruck in the league until they changed the jumping rules.
Spot on. Jeff White was a top flight ruckman and has no business at all even being brought into connection with this thread.

Some 250 game players are not as good within that group in relative terms, but there's no shame in that. It is interesting to see some names that get thrown up, some like Blakey and White are quite surprising.

the thread is about the worst 250 games players, out of those i have seen play i picked those as the worst 4. Not saying he wasnt a good player but in my worst 4

I know I barrack for Melbourne....but what?? He was an outstanding ruckman. Outstanding.

I bring into question your knowledge of the game.

Really think u should remove the Big Sav from the bold players , 13th on the all time goalkicking list ahead of the likes of Barry Hall , David Neitz and Warren Tredrea , Collingwood B&F 1995 , leading goalkicker at club level 10 seasons during his 15 seasons at AFL level .

Sheeds is an AFL legend no doubt , but i think if u really look at only his playing career his name might be closer to being a bit bolder .

FYI , Russell Greene won the AFL players association award for the most valuable player in 1984 (along with a B&F,an All Aussie and 3 Flags ) , also Spider Everitt was actually All Aussie 3 times , Drew Petrie All Aussie once , just for correction shake .

I'm pretty sure those in bold never won a club B&F, were All Australians, and for those who played most of their footy before 1991 didnt play state footy. But I am happy to be corrected.

 Spida was a triple All Australian and won B+F's at both St Kilda and Hawthorn. Does not belong in the conversation.

Only considering players that played during my lifetime, I have to lean towards Justin Peckett. The only thing on his side is 2 top 3 B&F finishes, one of which was in a minor premiership winning season. But given the Saints were bad more than good, I think that makes his games total slightly less outstanding.

Eagleton not far behind, but he had 4 seasons of 400+ disposals, 4 seasons of 20+goals, and a 10+ Brownlow year, and 2003-04 were the only years when he played in a regular loser. A few highlights doesn't hurt either.

I think Febey can be excused based on his 1998, which was pretty good. Appearing in 2 GFs 12 years apart, a bit like with Banfield, also indicates early career and late career serviceability (and not racking up lots of games in strugglers). The one thing against him might be that he played in 9 seasons where he failed to get a single Brownlow vote. If you take out his best season, it's 9 votes from 233 games (inc. finals).

Chris Newman would also be in consideration, but I think his solid captaincy and worth to a besieged defence saves him a little.
