I watched this and now every time I see a player sign for Swansea City, I think "why?" Y'know, aside from the Premier League soccer, the status, the money...

Swansea City players would live in mansions 30 minutes out of town. That probably goes for every Premier League footballer who doesn't play for a London club.

Agree with Port Headland, but Altona wtf?

When did you go there? It's not to bad at all. I think your mistaking it for Laverton

Used to go over to work in Altona North. I want to top myself just thinking of that crap hole.

One of Athens' dodgy suburbs. It was full of homeless junkies. Thought I was gonna get shanked walking to the hostel.

Dortmund, Germany is all round miserable. A grey, bleak industrial town surrounded by nothing but arterial roads and smog. The people are about as friendly as you would expect.
Bollocks. It's pretty decent imo

Thought Sydney was pretty s**t the one night I was there after I caught the train down from Newcastle around Midnight. Cockroaches everywhere, homeless on the streets, a man passed out on the footpath, bats screeching in trees, had a large group start to follow me and start stomping to try scare me as I was walking to the airport (I was shattered at the time and borderline suicidal so it didn't really phase me). Then got to the airport and laid down on a bench all night until my flight in the morning. Just all round had a horrible night. Although I was in a pretty bad way at the time so that probably influenced my experience a lot.

the shittest place in the world is south chicago illinois

I came in here to say Gary, IN.

West side of Atlanta. Atlanta is a pretty weird place - segregated pockets of wealth and poverty can be found pretty close to each other, but I've never seen decrepitude on the order that exists in areas of the west side anywhere else. Burnt out or abandoned houses everywhere, and just a generally uneasy vibe. The thing is that it's so much safer now than it was in the 80s that it's not funny, but there are still places you wouldn't go by yourself at any time of day in the inner city of Atlanta.

There are some areas in the region around Bankhead Hwy and Hollywood Rd that look like war zones. Literally, entire apartment complexes that have been abandoned and razed bit by bit, junk everywhere, unpaved dead end roads with little but shacks lining the road. It is pretty surreal.

Most large US cities have this. Indianapolis is another good example.

Worst place I've been to, by far, is Camden, New Jersey.

It's right across the river from Philadelphia and when I was in Philly, despite warnings not to, I went and had a quick look.

It's not a nice place and I hightailed out of there pretty quickly. I found out later that it apparently has the highest murder rate (I think) in the US.

East St Louis, IL is no 1, and the other place I came in here to mention. If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate position to be driving through there anywhere away from the casino and Gateway Arch viewing area, do not stop your car, do not look at other cars, do not even think about getting out of your car, and under no circumstances go there after dark. If you do any or all of these things, you are almost guaranteed to get rolled.

There you go, Altona Northh & Altona Meadows aren't great, but Altona on the beach is nice. Anyway I could ramble off at least 20-30 suburbs worse than those in Melbourne

Most depressing places Ive been

Elizabeth, Adelaide
Detroit, Michigan, USA
Port Hedland, WA
Newman, WA
Olympic Dam, SA
Karratha, WA
Roy Hill Minesite, WA
Altona, Melbourne
Noble Park, Melbourne
Kwinana shopping centre, Perth
Midland train station, Perth
Maddington shopping centre, Perth

I was only at Olypmic Dam for two months but that was two months too much. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, long drives out into flat featureless terrain just to drill for nickel and what not, chocking dust, freezing cold at night.

I grew up in Port Hedland and left right before things went haywire with the mining boom and it wasn't too bad but I can easily understand how people hate the place.

You reckon OD is bad now, you should been there in 80s when it was a just a bunch of portables in the middle of nowhere. Every school holidays my old man would take us up there because somehow flying on a six seater to the edge of the outback was seen by him as more fun for us than us knocking about with our mates. God I hate mines.

Ah, well Camden NJ certainly did have the mantle at one point recently.

I think in truth it kicks around between cities like Camden, East St Louis, Detroit and Gary.

Going to a heap of the big NE cities in the US in October. I will no doubt have some new challengers to add by then. The 48 hours I'm spending in Baltimore wil be interesting.

Parts of Washington DC. OH MY.

Booked a room in a name hotel chain. When I eventually found it, kept on driving, quickly, to get out of the area and found new place.

Next morning tv news showed film of the drive by killing outside the original hotel.

There's some really dodgy parts of Washington DC with mostly black neighbourhoods, it was the murder capital of the States at one stage but I think it has been overtaken by some other US cities now.

When we were there me and a mate were looking to buy a cheap used car and we went to some housing estate on the edge of the city to look at a car. I think we were the only white people in the whole area with all these black guys hanging around and staring at us like they wanted to kill us.

Anyway this dodgy looking bloke who looked like a drug dealer showed us the car and there was a razorblade on the dashboard with what looked like coke residue on it.

We ended up passing on that one, the car was probably stolen and a target for the cops or other drug dealers.

Karratha has turned real bad since the government has closed all the indigenous camps in the area and they have made their way back into town. So many bust ups with rival families at the local shops there.
