They were actually entertaining, rather than irritating.

Newsflash to 7 - Basil whatever his name is and Hamish "Quick Hands" McLachlan are not commentators a***holes. Ditch them.

OT - A few years ago, before Basil really hit the national airwaves, I was having dinner in a CBD restaurant when he and Dennis sat down at the next table. I only caught a few words here and there, but it was clearly a mentor/mentee moment.

The most amazing thing was that Dennis has an amazing off-air voice. If you didn't look him in the face you wouldn't know he was there!

Bob Skilton when he was a caller in the early 1970's; very professional, kept up with the play at all times.
