Not really. Both he and SMarsh tend to take 10-20 balls before they can go ballistic.

He has been having too many Crown Lagers if he thinks that Smith should bat at 6 and Marsh at 3. I could cop Marsh at 3 and Smith at 4, but that is it.

Then bat him at 5. I'm sorry I don't see the point in batting a bloke who bats 5 or 6 for WA at number 3 for Australia.

As I said above, maybe he sees Smith as a potential finisher in the Hussey mould. Else he merely sees it more important to have an extended look at Marsh than it is to look at Smith. It could actually bode well for Smith.
Since when couldn't Hughes field?
Sure he's no Smith/Maxwell, but it's not like he's Monty Panesar.

He is hopeless in the field, and when you have fatty Finch there that is 2 blokes you want to hide! It aint that easy!

Wrong, I would have no issue him being in the test side if he was in our best XI and fixed his ability against spin. But you need to be a VERY GOOD fielder in a ODI/T20 side.

350 was probably par in the end. But no matter how many runs we score if we can't take wickets everything will be chased down.
After one failure? Has hardly batted 3 for WA even, will need some time to grow into it. Then we can make that claim.
I doubt he'll get the time to grow into it though. I'm not even sure that's why he's there, though he's certainly on trial.
Hughes is fine in the field, not brilliant but solid. The whole spin bowler issue is whacked out though.

He isn't solid though, and the days are well and truely over for more than 2 specialist bats, they all have to be able to field at an elite level and bowl a bit.
