Chasing Losses
Posted by JamieJohnstone - 31 Aug 2010 06:05 PM - 8 Comments

As you may or may not have noticed, the country does not have a government proper at the moment, just a caretaker arrangement that appears to be ticking over in a rather attractive – do we actually need so many politicians? – fashion while various shady deals are hammered out between the major parties and the eclectic bunch of independents.

[font=Arial][size=3]Reading the runes of these deals, it is interesting...click here to read more...

Essendon - Enough Blame for Everyone
Posted by The Punter - 30 Aug 2010 04:07 PM - 9 Comments

So Matthew Knights is gone. One of the most predictable events of the season took place last night, as Essendon decided to steal the top item on the evening news from that attention hog Ben Cousins and have it all for themselves by relieving themselves of their senior coach. Three years, one final, thanks for nothing.

The commotion that surrounded Essendon all year, as they defeated two top four teams but lost to the bottom two interstate teams in Melbourne, was that this mediocrity simply wasn't good enough.

Plenty of blame has been directed at Matthew Knights, and he has been held accountable...click here to read more...

Cuzzy Part Two - Count Me Out
Posted by JamieJohnstone - 26 Aug 2010 03:05 PM - 30 Comments

I will happily admit that I watched every second of Ben Cousins’ documentary Such Is Life last night. And loved it. Even went round to a mate’s house with a six pack. Made a night of it.

But I won’t be watching the second instalment tonight.

[font=Calibri][size=3]The first instalment had so many highlights: Cuz being open and honest about the drugs...click here to read more...

The AFL Commission - Very Well Red
Posted by The Punter - 18 Aug 2010 12:46 PM - 12 Comments

With politics very much in the front of everyone's mind, Andrew Demetriou didn't want to be left out last week.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott had announced the commitment of $36 million to further redevelopment of Skilled Stadium in Geelong, unconditional on Australia winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup

In addition to the benefits to the Geelong Football Club, this funding would also increase the possibility of Geelong becoming a host city for an A-League or Twenty20 franchise.

However, Mr Demetriou didn't really want any part of it, implying the Opposition of merely playing politics with the...click here to read more...

Do The Right Thing Johnno - And Go
Posted by JamieJohnstone - 17 Aug 2010 03:51 PM - 24 Comments

Brad Johnson should do the right thing by his football club and retire this week. That he would join two other undoubted champions of the game in Ben Cousins and Simon Goodwin in hanging up the boots this week would be a fitting tribute to a long and storied career.

[font=Calibri][size=3]There’s those sentimentalists who would like Johnno to get one last shot at a flag. I am by a large a sucker for sentiment in footy, but in this case, cold...click here to read more...

The Great Geelong Choke!!!
Sep 03, 2010 - 11:32 PM - by South of the Yarra
If St Kilda or Collingwood lost a final after starting hot favourites everyone would be calling it a choke. The Cats made pressure errors when it counted and fell apart. They choked as hot favourites.

SAINTS...Respect. Have they earned it??
Sep 03, 2010 - 11:31 PM - by BakesFan
I'm completely biased of course.... but I would like to hear HONEST opinions from opposition supporters.
Have the Saints gained your respect (you can still dislike them) tonight?
Are they a genuine Premiership threat?... and how will they be beaten in the race for the 2010 Flag?

Swans on the right side of Draw
Sep 03, 2010 - 11:30 PM - by mattf83
"Provided Pies Win"

Saints, Swans, Blues, Dogs
Pies, Hawks, Cats, Freo

I know which side i'd rather be on

Swans can make it. Should beat Carlton and the Dogs, can beat the Saints, Hopefully the Hawks can beat Freo the Cats & the Pies. Swans v Hawks GF would be close.

Go the Swans

Is it all over for Geelong?
Sep 03, 2010 - 11:21 PM - by Panthera
Only one loss and under a goal in
it....but, now more than likely will need to beat the Hawks, Pies and then Saints to win the 2010 GF and gain their place as one
of the best teams ever.

The Lions did it in 2003 after losing the first final, can the Cats do it? I'm tipping no on the basis of their Ruck, CHF, FF combo not
being able to get them
over the line 3 weeks in a row from
here on in.....

The in the back rule needs to be fixed
Sep 03, 2010 - 11:13 PM - by Truckasaurus
Here's why:

For a hundred years players were able to avoid giving away in-the-back frees by bumping.

Now the tribunal penalises you if you bump when you have an opportunity to tackle.

Whenever you tackle a player who buckles and falls you're an overwhelming chance to concede an in the back. It's pure momentum.

What could Mooney do? If he tries to avoid in-the-back by bumping, he's a 50/50 chance to be rubbed out.

The 'in the back'... [Read More]

Stokes Free (shepherding ball)
Sep 03, 2010 - 11:13 PM - by Bakes
Stokes stood his ground on the wing. Saints player runs into him as the ball arrives. Umpire pays an illegal shepherd.
2 minutes later Taylor is bumped at saints forward 50 (shown on goal replay). The ball is on centre wing. Nick runs back with flight marks and runs into the goal square. Ump calls play on.

Now Im not saying that it cost us the game or anything, that would be stupid. Its more of a bitch about the consistancy of the umpires. The stokes one was play on. he... [Read More]

If it was a free kick to Gwilt for in the back, why did Dawson end up with it ???
Sep 03, 2010 - 11:12 PM - by Paganism
Please explain how this occured. Because Gwilt was awarded the free kick for in the back against Mooney, so why did Zac Dawson take the free kick????

you'd think Pies v Saints is the fav way in the GF

Which would make one of first flag for pies since 1990 and Saints since 1966

I'm truly torn whom to support
