Extra Extra! The AFL Times is here!

A very interesting story in The Age today about the AFL moving to revamp the way club websites are used and crucially, how “news” is reported.

As the piece says:

Quote:
“The AFL and club websites have not traditionally pursued hard news, preferring general team news, features and audio and visual clips, while letting mainstream media set the pace on the issues.”
Now the AFL wants to start reporting...click here to read more...

SuperCoach and Dream Team: Impromptu on Selecting Your Starting Side
Posted by Chief - 29 Jan 2012 11:35 AM - 6 Comments

SJ asks Impromptu six questions on selecting a starting side.

Impromptu finished 1st in SuperCoach and 26th in Dream Team in 2011.

1. What do you consider to be the basic types of players in Dream Team and SuperCoach?

Traditionally, my Dream Team and SuperCoach teams comprise of a set number of premium and rookie players with only a small portion of mid-priced players. Therefore, I favour the 'guns and rookies' approach.

Premiums are there because you need them in your team to score points because, all things being equal, premiums will score more...click here to read more...

One Andrew Swallow does the summer make
Posted by JamieJohnstone - 12 Jan 2012 02:39 PM - 6 Comments

The first pink fingers of dawn break through the long dark footballess night. North have just announced the first intra-club match of the season.

Other clubs either are or soon will be doing the same.

The intra-club is a strange beast. Even more than those stupid NAB Challenge games you have to play once you get turfed out of the NAB Cup proper (I know) it is utterly meaningless.

Yet without...click here to read more...

GWS - Where Losing Happens
Posted by The Punter - 12 Jan 2012 10:17 AM - 14 Comments

This year, 2012, shapes as a particularly groundbreaking year for many reasons. A new TV deal, a new schedule, and a new team. There is certainly the promise of a interesting and contentious year.

That new team, Greater Western Sydney, will be particularly groundbreaking. Venturing into Australia's toughest sporting market, the AFL is determined to ensure GWS succeed, and they have the resources and willpower to ensure it will happen.

Just like the Gold Coast Suns before them, GWS are taking a long-term approach. But it would appear they are taking that long-term focus to an entirely new level.

Didak: Continue the slide or bounce back to form?
Feb 04, 2012 - 12:28 PM - by Wernumberone
Injuries pretty much ruined his season last year and he seemed to have lost all confidence and nothing went right for him.

He's just about to turn 29, so he's certainly not past it from an age POV and could easily have 3 or 4 years of top quality football left if he can bounce back.... [Read More]

Reserves teams
Feb 04, 2012 - 11:19 AM - by Kwality
The pressure is on in WA for the Eagles & Dockers to have reserves squads just as Collingwood & Geelong have, but it will be at a cost in WA, the AFL teams pay, the WAFL clubs bank the proceeds.

Should the Pies & Cats be funding the VFL on a similar scale for the... [Read More]

AFL do something smart, use the name 'Sydney Derby'
Feb 03, 2012 - 3:19 PM - by legend166
So instead of trying to come up with some dumb name that was thought up by marketers in Melbourne, the clash between Sydney and GWS is simply going to be referred to as the 'Sydney Derby'.

Will North Melbourne now get David Swallow?
Feb 03, 2012 - 12:22 PM - by Lance Uppercut
Quite properly, this debate was removed from a thread designed to celebrate the rise to power of Andrew Swallow.

However, there seems to be a significant percentage of North supporters who feel that it is now fait accompli that they will get Gold Coast superstar and number one... [Read More]

Ablett - Before or after?
Feb 03, 2012 - 11:46 AM - by AFLOnline
I know it is a long and boring off season and threads like this probably don't help at all, but I was just wondering people's thoughts on Ablett prior to and after his move to the Suns.

This is only MY opinion and nothing more, but I use to hate Ablett with an absolute passion. I... [Read More]
