Like the previous few years, the AFL will again wait until late to announce the schedule for the final round of 2016.

Unlike previous years, however, there is a bye week scheduled before the finals, which negates the need to give finals-bound teams an early match to an extent.

Nevertheless, it does make a good debate. The final eight looks set with Hawthorn, Geelong, GWS, Adelaide, Western Bulldogs, Sydney, North Melbourne and West Coast set to fight it out for the flag.

Only two games are scheduled between finalists in Round 23 though, North Melbourne v GWS at Etihad and Adelaide v West Coast at Adelaide Oval.

Hawthorn v Collingwood MCG
Essendon v Carlton MCG
Adelaide v West Coast Eagles Adelaide Oval
St Kilda v Brisbane Lions Etihad Stadium
Sydney Swans v Richmond SCG
Gold Coast Suns v Port Adelaide Metricon Stadium
Geelong v Melbourne Simonds Stadium
North Melbourne v GWS Giants Etihad Stadium
Fremantle v Western Bulldogs Subiaco Oval
