Richmond are currently on a 16 game winning streak, just one game shy of equalling and two short of breaking the record held by Melbourne for 62 years. The 17 game winning streak record was put together over two flag years for the Demons (1955 and ’56) when Norm Smith was coach and a young Ron Barassi was starting his VFL career.

The only thing between the Tigers matching the record is the undermanned Crows in rd 16. What likely poses a greater challenge is surpassing the Dees’ legendary streak by beating an ever improving Collingwood side in rd 19.

Whether or not the record is broken might be academic but the fact that the Grand Final is played on the MCG isn’t. The Tigers currently sit on top of the ladder and look in even better shape at this point in the year than they did in 2017 when they snared the flag. The question of who can beat the Tigers at the MCG remains.
