The AFL wishes to advise the GWS GIANTS yesterday notified the league it would appeal Tuesday night’s Tribunal decision involving player Toby Greene.

The GWS GIANTS appealed the one-match sanction imposed on Greene for Striking Patrick Dangerfield, Geelong Cats, during the first quarter of the Round 21 match between the Geelong Cats and GWS GIANTS played at GMHBA Stadium on Friday August 6, 2021.

Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Careless Conduct, High Impact, High Contact. The incident was classified as a two-match sanction.
The AFL Tribunal assessed the incident as Careless Conduct, Medium Impact, High Contact, resulting in a one-match sanction.

The hearing in front of the Appeals Board will be at 3:00pm AEST today, Thursday August 11.

The GWS GIANTS informed the AFL it had appealed the sanction on the following grounds:

  • An error of law has occurred.
