The Carlton Football Club has added to its ruck depth with the signing of Hudson O’Keeffe during the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP). At over two meters tall, O’Keeffe is a promising athlete who has impressed with his vertical leap, speed, and agility.

O’Keeffe’s impressive performance at the NAB League level for the Oakleigh Chargers earned him a spot on Vic Metro during the 2022 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. He was named one of the best players in the championship-clinching game against Vic Country.

Nick Austin, Carlton’s Head of List Management, expressed the club’s excitement to see O’Keeffe grow as a developing option in Carlton’s ruck brigade. He stated, “Hudson impressed us with his ability to not only win hit-outs, but also get the ball away effectively from stoppages through his physicality and competitiveness – all strengths we think will add to an exciting mix in our rucks.”

O’Keeffe will work closely with Carlton’s ruck coach, Matthew Kreuzer, as he continues to improve his ruck skills. The club is also looking to make O’Keeffe a well-rounded player and will invest in his development. Austin said, “We’re thrilled to have him as part of the Blues.”

The club has placed Sam Philp on the inactive list, leaving one list spot available which can be filled before the SSP deadline next Wednesday or at the mid-season draft.
