In a historic evening at the 2024 Brownlow Medal count, Carlton’s captain Patrick Cripps etched his name into AFL folklore by claiming his second Brownlow Medal. Not only did he secure the league’s highest individual honor for the second time, but he also set a new record by polling an unprecedented 45 votes.
Cripps’ stellar season saw him outpace formidable contenders, with Nick Daicos finishing on 38 votes and Zak Butters on 29. His dominance was evident as he received the maximum three votes in 12 games—more than half of the home-and-away matches he played—and earned votes in 17 out of 23 possible games.
A Season to Remember
At 29 years old, Cripps is now among an elite group of only 17 players who have won the Brownlow Medal multiple times. He stands alone as the first player to win two Brownlow Medals while at Carlton, joining club legends Chris Judd and Greg Williams, who also secured the award twice in their careers.
This season, Cripps was one of only three Carlton players to feature in every game. He averaged:
- 28.8 disposals per game
- 15.7 contested possessions
- 8.1 clearances
- 17 goals for the season
His consistent excellence earned him a fourth All-Australian selection, further solidifying his status as one of the game’s premier midfielders.

Praise from a Fellow Brownlow Medallist
Carlton’s senior coach, Michael Voss—himself a Brownlow Medallist—couldn’t be prouder of his captain’s achievements.
“We are immensely proud of Patrick and his remarkable achievement,” Voss said. “He not only delivers exceptional performances on the field but also dedicates himself to making those around him better. His commitment to team success is unwavering.”
Voss highlighted Cripps’ leadership qualities, emphasizing his team-first mentality and the mentorship he provides to emerging players.
Looking Ahead
Cripps’ historic win is more than just a personal accolade; it’s a significant milestone for the Carlton Football Club. His leadership and on-field performances have been instrumental in the team’s successes, and his record-breaking Brownlow Medal count sets a new standard for excellence.
As fans and teammates celebrate this monumental achievement, one thing is clear: Patrick Cripps’ legacy is still being written, and the best may be yet to come.
