St Kilda fans can breathe a sigh of relief as key forward Max King has avoided a serious knee injury following a recent scare during a training session. The 23-year-old sustained the injury in what initially appeared to be a concerning incident, given his history with knee problems. However, scans have cleared him of any structural damage, and he is expected to return to full training within the next week.
The injury occurred during a routine pre-season session, immediately raising concerns due to King’s past setbacks, including a previous ACL injury that sidelined him for an entire season. Given his importance to the Saints’ forward line, the club acted swiftly to assess the situation, sending King for medical evaluations and scans.
Fortunately, results confirmed that the damage was minimal, and King will only require a short recovery period. St Kilda officials have indicated that he is likely to resume full training within one to two weeks, ensuring that his preparation for the 2025 season remains largely unaffected.
The Saints’ training session that day was particularly eventful, as teammates Jack Sinclair and Mason Wood also suffered minor injuries—Sinclair dealing with hamstring soreness and Wood experiencing a quad issue. Like King, both players were cleared of significant damage and are expected to be fit for the start of the season.
St Kilda’s Executive General Manager of Football, David Misson, addressed the situation, confirming that none of the three injuries were serious. He also noted that the club had already scheduled a four-day break for the players, allowing them to rest before reassessing their conditions.
Despite this minor setback, King remains one of St Kilda’s most crucial players. His strong marking ability and presence inside the forward 50 make him a key asset for the team’s success. With his return to full training imminent, the Saints will be eager to have him firing on all cylinders when the season officially kicks off.
