Bedford your are a total loser!! As I remember the win at friars was 100+ points and still you are stupid enough to make reference to the umpire! Get a grip you moron and wait till we play your mob this year (with all their recruits!!) then comment. No matter Ormond will still be the fattest team from C to A grade, so why don't you just keep the boys drinking cold cans for under $3! Hope you get hit by a bus.
yes friars won by 100 points, what happened at the return match at e e gunn,no31 wasn,t such a tough guy away from sh#t city with the $4 cans

wrong, matthews was waiting for ormond.and then he got shafted.
killer was appointed by south but if matthews hadn't been so loyal he would have got the job.
no offence to south

This all started with Brian making reference to the FACT that Matthews had been in for several other jobs, and for various reasons hadn't got them.
I think from memory he named five clubs, which nobody seems to have disputed he was in for and didn't get( for whatever reason)

So , Brian was right when he said he had been for many jobs and not got any of them so he took Bulleen -Temp?

The reasons are realy neither here not there Bedford.

flipping hell guys, get over it. There have been times in my life when I've had a lot more than five attempts to get a job. While we'd all like to think that we would be "snapped up" by an easy-going but smart employer for a huge sum the instant we hint at our availability, reality is that there will be others going for the same job who may be a better fit, offer more, or can be paid less.

In fact, the last time I went for a round of job interviews, I was offered two but could only accept one. Does that count as a "failed application" for the other?

Sheesh.

If it makes you feel better, he was "snapped up" at his fifth attempt at a job.

Yeah - and James Hird was finally drafted at his 79th attempt to get picked in 1990. Obviously the clubs at the time deemed 78 players better than him.

Pretty sure he ended up more successful than the 78 picked before him.

I doubt Matthews will care about the others, he was the first choice at B-T, and that's all that matters.

Of course, the old one in a million quote to prove your point. I am surprised you haven't brought up Dandy Andy's win in the Australian Cup at 125-1 to show" anything is possible!!( he did beat Vo rouge and Bonecrusher!)

Fact remains that the coaching pool is significantly smaller in mid-late nov and therefore it is much easier to get "snapped up"?

I know for a fact that he cares, particulary about the one in the same grade that he missed to be overlooked for a relegated coach.

Oh well, if that means he only buys Killer a beer after they play SMD, and not the club's coaching selection panel, big deal.

He's coaching, and he's got a good young list with an U19s side pushing kids through, and the potential to go deep into September.

FWIW - I was advised in confidence of the other unsuccessful candidates that he beat for the gig, and can assure you it was a very good field (including snr Div 1 DVFL, TAC U18 experience and a very recent a higher VAFA grade premiership coach).

Good luck to David & BT.....except when they play the Reds naturally ;)

thats what i said friar boy

Jesus, all this crap about Matthews new gig at BT has bought me out of Big Footy retirement. Scribe & Over the Line got it right - get over it. Move on people, he is a fantastic bloke and will be a great coach at BT. Super selection.

My info says they have big numbers at training with some senior players returning from the EFL and VFL and no significant losses from last year. I also hear they are stoked with what has been a good pre season with the new coach in charge.

NEW FCUKING TOPIC PLEASE.

NEW FCUKING TOPIC PLEASE.[/quote]

How about old mentonians, from a very good source i hear that 4 - 5 players will be over seas till july of there starting finals team (one of these players was named in scribes team of year) the other player named in the team of year is having a operation on his knee. and with out snow because of VFL commitments.

Only one new recuit.. in Teasdale.
If all this is true has Magee's bubble burst???

Snow's a big loss, but the 4-5 going overseas is pretty much standard for a VAFA side. If you keep more than 15 of your best 22 between seasons, you've done well.

Their reserves finished 2nd - suggesting good depth, and their U19s went OK in Div 3 last year.

Throw in their ground access over summer (huge asset), and the fact they were 60 seconds away from promotion to C grade - I'll still have them starting warm favorites for the 2008 flag.

Sorry Scribe, forgot to mention that 10 or more of last years reserves arent playing, no one knows why.

I'm yet to see about 10 of our regular reserve lads too - a few are away, or going overseas, whilst some just take a while to get into the swing of pre-season.

Oh well, at least I know why.....:D It's going to be easy for me to advise those in the last category why they can start the season in the 3rds after the graduating U19s and/or new recruits who've worked solid for 3 months have proven their worth and pinched their spots. If asked why, the answer is simple - you didn't work hard enough and there's fitter and more committed blokes in the side.

I'm tipping Harps would have a similar tale from SMD (might have to wait for his red card to expire before he can enlighten us though) :p

well more than 4-5 players missing.....they'll struggle

wiltshire, prowse, wilton, s.fairbanks, moon, carrol, biggs, snow - all played last year, all 21 and under.

get on the reds!

add in brent fairbanks...

wats wrong with him?

just more reason to get on the reds in 08!

I can give you plenty of reasons to steer clear of the Reds and leave them well alone.

reds_08 your intimate knowledge of the Old Mentonian list, and likely departures from their crop of youngsters is astounding.
Even moreso given the Reds never played OMs in U19s and haven't played them in seniors since 2005 (when none of these kids would've been in their senior side).

Kinda fishy methinks.....

nah mate, very good mates with a bloke from BT u/19's. he played against some of them in u/19s then against them in senoirs.....
also played cricket against biggs....hes just a tagger tho
