WHOOPS!
I fogot that bands singing about "Real" issues make them more artistic then bands singing about pot and getting ****ed up, is that what your telling me:confused:
yeah, just singing songs about pot? yeah....you guys really need to listen to more music and making stupid assumptions.\

What have Cypress hill done for Hip Hop, What the ****?!
Cypress Hill-Biggest selling latin rap group ever. They were highly influencial for the rap scene in the 90's. Broke down a lot of genre barriers and gained a majority of fans who were not traditional Hip Hop fans.

Cypress are more influencial then Kayne will ever be, Kayne is lucky hes pushed by record company to make money, i wont usually call up people for liking him, But if you think hes suddenly done more for Hip Hip then ****ing Cypress hill, you really dont know anything

Kayne west at best is a little girl, cries when he doesnt win awards, snowballs crackpot theories. and generally is a douche.

Absolutely agree that Good Vibes was not a patch on last year.

Kanye is a w***er of the highest order. It's guys like him that made me even more sad when Jurassic 5 broke up last year. They were what hiphop is supposed to be. Anybody who saw their set at Good Vibes would have to agree. 4 MCs & 1 DJ on stage, no elaborate staging, no need for 6 costume changes in a 90 minute set, a concert which celebrated the festival and didn't leave you feeling like you'd just gone to a Kanye concert not just seen Kanye at a festival.

Cypress rocked. The Rapture were awesome, that sax player is phenominal.

Rapture's saxaphone player>Kanye's exccesive costume changes>Cypress' stupid bongo solos>Spending a large portion of your concert smoking a joint and then pretending to choke before, shock horror, launching into ANOTHER song about smoking joints

Agreed. The majority of my friends are hard rock fans, and the only rap that they enjoy is that of Cypress Hill. Kanye is more for the casual listener, who enjoys the charts. This is just from my observations.

And what's this about Nelly and Chingy being more commercial then Kanye? No way, Kanye is the most publicized and commercialised rapper in this day and age. And for the record - Nelly >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Kanye. Maybe not today, but overall, yes.
I could listen to Country Grammar over and over.

Cypress hill are pure garbage, they cater to stoners and people you mention like your mates who are rock fans and try to listen to one rap group so they can say they are diverse. Interestingly, Kanye is probably the most listened to rapper by traditional rock fans, whether they prefer mainstream rock or not, something probably demonstrated by the amount of play he gets on JJJ. Historically, other such rappers to get such love from rock fans are Public Enemy, Dr Dre and Jay-Z

Your credibility is over, please leave the thread.
Kanye might have more commerical success, but he does not create music purely for commercial sucess. Furthermore, there is no way in any aspect that Nelly has ever been superior to Kanye. This is Mr Hot In Herre we are talking about. Country Grammar is a below par CD manufactured purely for sales. Nelly is terrible, none of his songs would crack a top 10 Kanye song list.

If they want to say they're diverse by listening to rap, why not choose Kanye. Oh wait, because Cypress Hill are better. Why would anyone care about being diverse in music taste? You either like a genre or you don't. My friends tell me they hate rap, yet they listen to Cypress as it is the only group they like.

Wrong again. People who listen to the top 40 countdowns listen to Kanye. He's a commercial rapper and is pretty much in the same boat as 50 cent, Chingy, Nelly and Akon.

When you create a song like Good Life and Stronger, your not aiming for a specific audience. Your aiming for teenboppers, and commercial success. Nelly has better flow and voice. He also writes his own songs, unlike Kanye.

Country Grammar made purely for sales. What are albums made for?

Kanye was the one heading for a more commercially successful career. Remixing a well known classic and your going to get plenty of play time. Nelly has done no such thing, and all he's talked about for the majority of Country Grammar is Saint Louis, while getting a large number of sales.

Nas goes for a more commercial sound after Illmatic and gets hammered for it. Kanye does it and he gets praised by people on this forum.

Lastly, Country Grammar a below par CD? You have to be kidding me. As for his second album, I don't rate it. You've got soo many good songs on Country Grammar. E.I., Country Grammar, Ride Wit Me, St Louis, Greed Hate Envy, Batter Up, Luven Me, Steal The Show.

Look don't get me wrong, Country Grammar had some good party songs, but as far as quality music goes it is inferior to any of Kanye's albums. Most of all College Dropout. You listed Nelly songs, none of them tops the following from college dropout: Through The Wire, Spaceship, Never Let Me Down, Family Business, All Falls Down, Jesus Walks.

Just because Kanye gets the sales doesnt mean he is writing the records purely for sales. Im not comparing musical quality, But Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan still regularly top the charts and are two of the greatest musicians ever.

Your right at one thing, Good Life and Stronger are two commercial songs, aimed to be singles. But this is an age old thing on Hip Hop cds, thats how NWA had Express Yourself, Jay-Z wrote Hard Knock Life, most rap CDs you see have one or two songs made to be singles. The aim is to keep them quality at the same time, something both of those songs arguably still are.

And albums not being made for sales? How about for art, quality or a political statement? There are a million better reasons to make an album than for begging girls to take off their clothes because of the temperature.

Kanye isn't exactly showing the lyricism of Illmatic on his CDs, but it is far and away better than either Nelly or Cypress, and still very entertaining whilst still having a slight level of depth, awesome beats and great guest appearances.

Look, you cant really compare rappers to other rappers because there is so many different factors to consider when trying to debate who is the better rapper. Its like comparing Metallica to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. People will like both but its hard to say who is better because of completely different styles.

Kanye West is a solid rapper who knows how to put together an album well (Jay-Z's BluePrint and his own). He has great beats, knows how to sell records by using the good ole technique of having a few smash hit singles then have the album with songs that are more "rap", thus appealing to the proper audience most rap artists are after - the hardcore rap fans, not teenage girls. If you go past songs like "Good Life, Stronger, Golddigger", and actually listen to the other songs of his you will realise he is more then a pop artist.

Albums are not always made for sales, but for personal glory or to appeal to a particular audience - not wealthy white kids who are more likely to buy their music.

Personally, I dont like Nelly, never downloaded any of his albums - not my style, not into anyone from the Dirty South tbh. So I can't really go into the whole Kanye vs Nelly debate.

Nas got hammered not because he went all out commercial on his sophmore album but because he made such a damn good debut and, understanderbly, couldn't back it up with another classic. Kanye isn't getting hammered like Nas because College Dropout was a good album, so was Late Registration (IMO possibly better) and Graduation isn't a total dropoff - it may seem Kanye has "sold-out" on Graduation but he hasn't, you just have to look deeper and go past the songs like Stronger and Good Life you will find out that he doesn't write songs purely for pop hit singles.

Am I the only one that likes both Cypress Hill AND Kanye West? And Nelly for that matter. Y'all are being too uptight about this. I think Kanye and Cypress Hill will both go down as rap superstars, and will both have a place in rap history.

Lol, yes you are.

EDIT: Oh and to Kanye haters, listen to Big Brother off the Graduation album. Realshizznit.

I was so amazed the first time I heard Big Brother- its as if someone finally communicated my feelings about Jay-Z in song. Notice that people give Kanye s**t for using samples, when that and Can't Tell me Nothing are both pretty much all Kanye, and the best songs on the album

kanye is on top of the game right now

who gives a s**t if he is arrogant or whatever he is making quality music and thats all that needs to be done

some of his singles like gold digger and good life etc are not my favourites but unlike a million other artists he's albums arent filled with filler but actually get BETTER than the commercial friendly singles

do yourself a favour and listen to addiction, flashing lights, i wonder etc

I have no problem with him sampling it is the techniques he borrowed off of others that he get credited as pioneering that pisses me off.

List of Kanye west classic tracks.

Through the Wire
Family Business
Spaceship
Never Let Me Down
Diamonds from Sierra Leone
Everything I am
Cant Tell me Nothing

And thats tracks hes rapping in, and rapping is his worst aspect. If your going to go production he is arguably one of the most influential people in Hip Hop since 2000, his production on Blueprint was outstanding and defined what Hip Hop sounded like for the next few years.

Sure, these feats aren't as good as rapping about taking another hit from the bong, but what is? Cypress dont have a single song that cracks the above list of Kanye classics, and their influence on hip hop has been nothing postive. Honestly, what is one redeeming feature of Cypress Hill?

Some of the most important things in Rap are
Beats
Flow
Rhyming and Lyricism
Subject Matter
Voice

Cypress aren't outstanding on any of those, and are so far down in lyricism and subject matter that they are terrible. Kanye has a passable voice, good lyricism, good subject matter, good flow and amazing beats. Sure, Mr. West is overrated, but his live shows cannot be questioned and he is so far above Cypress Hill it isnt even funny.

Infact it is dead set 100% right. Kanye is one of the most sought after producers and guest rappers around right now. He has defined the sound of Hip Hop in the blueprint era, and gone on to leave his genre to work with bands as varied as Fallout boy and Michael Jackson. And you think the band with such hits as Stoned is the way of the walk, Hits from the Bong, Dr Greenthumb and I wanna get high have done more for rap?

Oh, and dont define an artist by one song, as Good Life>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Whats your number.

Sorry for bumping this, but I ended up listening to all of these songs you listed. It seems as though you think that female background vocals over a beat makes a good rap song to you. Pretty much every single song you listed there has a female voice humming or singing in the background, to make it sound the soo much more emotional and serious. The lyrics and flow in most of those songs is horrible, with Spaceship being the only one I liked. I liked it so much it became my first Kanye song in my playlist. :D

Glad to add one to your playlist. You didn't like Never Let Me Down? That's not a highlight from Kanye's point of view but Jay-Z is great in that

Maybe it's my overwhelming hate for him, :p, but I'm starting to like his non chart songs a little more. Spaceship is a nice track and Can't Tell Me Nothing is decent as well. Just not a big fan of his voice and still feel he doesn't have good feel and flow in his songs.

Though yes, you are slowly converting me. :D Though this doesn't change the fact Stronger is the most annoying song ever. :p

Yeah I never rated Stronger, the only good parts are the Daft Punk bits.
If you wana investigate a bit more, try

Two Words
We Don't Care
All Falls Down
Jesus Walks
Get em high
Diamonds from Sierra Leone
I wonder
Flashing Lights
Homecoming

You may aswell give him a chance, your going to be hearing alot of him whether you like it or not :p

This thread just goes to show how beautiful and great music is. There is something for everyone.

Personally I'm a major fan of Kanye, but mostly a fan of his songs that don't make the charts or radio.

To be honest never really listed to any Cypress Hill, any recommendations?

Big fan of Lupe, Consequence, Common and co as well.

The lyrics and flow in most of those songs is horrible

Agreed. It seems to me that just because he doesn't talk about guns people automatically assume he's got good lyrics.

Just not a big fan of his voice

Also agreed. That's the main reason I can't listen to him, Lupe or Mos Def. Kweli's voice is slightly less annoying.

Lupe AND Mos Def? Who do you like then? Theyve realesed some of the better albums of the last 5 Years, and Kweli rounds out the list and all he gets is a slightly less annoying voice?

What do I like? You are aware that rap music exisits outisde of Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco and Mos Def, right?

But since you asked so politely, here's my top 10 list of rappers I like listening to (in no order)

Kool G Rap
Gang Starr
Masta Ace
Wu Tang
Nas
2pac
Jurassic 5
Slick Rick
Rakim
Geto Boys/Scarface
