Barring injuries, which teams can realistically expect to run with or beat Geelong this year.

The obvious
- Hawthorn
- St Kilda

Are there any others and how can they do it?

Dons were a kick behind at 3/4 time last year with a 2 man bench
Once we went down to 0 bench they thrashed us by about 40 points in the lsat quarter, but we were right in it & had them worried

Take that as you will, I'm not sticking an opinion on it

.. Hawthorn can, Stkilda cant.

West Coast might be able to be the Cats at Subiaco.
Collingwood has a good chance of beating them.
Port Adelaide can (at Skilled aswell)
Fremantle: see West Coast

~

Collingwood (nearly did in prelim)
Hawthorn
Brisbane (if they play like they did against Collingwood last year)

What a shallow thread.
It,s like saying who can bowl to the worlds best batsman Ricky Ponting, and look what happened to his batting average this summer.

15 teams can beat geelong. One thing is for sure in footy, there are no certainties.

How about ............. Geelong.

Mental fragility and team disunity may destroy the teams chances

We nearly beat them in the 2nd most important game of the season with Chris Bryan and Guy Richards as our ruckmen.

Give us Josh Fraser and Cameron Wood and we're probably going to do better - Not saying we'll win, just that we COULD.

St. Kilda would go a contender
Hawthorn maybe
Collingwood
Port Adelaide
West Coast at Subiaco

but we haven't won any games yet so at this stage any team can beat us.

Any team on the day could beat them they are not un-beatable if a team had everything go their way on the day then they are a better than good chance of beating them

Yeah because we showed everyone how mentally fragile we were last year.

That side of the equation is covered. The players appear as hungry as ever. I'd say injuries would be the thing that may possibly bring us unstuck, as with any team, but our fitness department seem to be doing a great job with their managment of the players (touch wood), so hopefully that isn't an issue either.

Time will tell.

Yeah, we were petrified. From memory, our bench wasn't too crash hot either. Essendon are really, really great though. :p

...idiot...

Anyway, provided all teams are at full strength. Hawthorn and Collingwood always play well against us, West Coast maybe at Subi same with Freo, Brisbane in Brisbane are a chance too. That's about it.

Maybe Hawthorn

Midfield

Hodge V Corey
Mitchell V Bartel
Sewell V Ablett
Crawford V Kelly
Lewis V Ling
Bateman V Selwood

I think we go pretty well in the middle

Forward

Franklin V Egan
Roughead V Scarlett
Boyle V Harley
Williams V Milburn
Dew V Wojinski

I think they can nullify us up forward, However, if Buddy turns it on i believe no one can stop him.

Defence

Croad V Mooney
Gilham V Hawkins
Brown V Johnson
Guerra V Stokes
Birchall V Chapman

Could struggle, we'd be relying heavily on a big game from Birchall.

Ruck

Campbell V Ottens
Taylor V Blake

They have it over us with Ottens easily. I believe Taylor and Blake could break even.

Overall, it is never as simple as this, but i think what's positive is that the midfield looks capable of beating Geelongs, and aside from all that, We have been Geelongs bogey side for years

Mackie would play on Franklin, like he did last year or Scarlett. Doubt Egan could match him athletically.
